hi i just bought an i7 8700k and a z370 plus gaming motherboard, cpuz says my cpu is at 4.7 all the time but bios reports 3.7, but the target turbo is 4.7 so is my cpu always on full whack?, i would like it to run at 3.7 then ramp up to whatever, also the ram is ddr4 4000mhz but wont boot at that speed, these boards are more complicated than my old z77 so if anyone can shed some light on this it would help then i can start a fresh with the bios, thanks

When I got my computer the ram is 3200mhz but the intel i7 7700K chip set's it to default speed at 2133mhz that the real problem the Intel chip default speed on ram as for the CPU speed mine runs at 4.2 to turbo 4.7 but I can overclock it to 5GHZ but what the point! if I want to run the ram it at 3200mhz I have to use the XMP in bios then I have other problem later with it on with it

I think intel should not limit the default speed on ram and CPU speed they say it's unlocked but it not just marketing crap

Is Windows' Power Plan set to Balanced or High Performance?

They have to limit the default RAM frequency because not every processor has a strong IMC to handle high memory frequencies. So the safe thing is to make the default low, and then go up from there.

thanks the power plan is set to high performance

Balanced should make the frequency vary as you want it, unless some BIOS settings interfere. If it doesn't work out through the Power Plan, then check in the BIOS that Vcore is set to Adaptive not Manual/Fixed.

We are not in the 1970's we are now in the 20 century, Intel have been sitting too long on their backside.

remove ur overclock and set dimms first . I guess u on a gigabyte mb. what dimms are u using? you can try moving voltage up on vccio and system agent start at stock and move up in inervals of 0.025v on both at the same time. to much can be just as bad as not enough.

also r u tying to set first and secondary timmings manual?

i haven't oc anything the target turbo is 4.7ghz and the cpu avx is set to 4.7ghz and north bridge 4000 and something else is 4000 but now cpu z says its running at 4.3ghz

yes cpu and ram is g-skill trident 4000mhz, i think the system is on auto overclock, but i don't know how to get the cpu to run at stock and then bump up the ram...

save your current bios settings in a profile then load optimize defaults or change cpu multiplayer to auto. but I highly recommend to save it to profile 1st b4 messing about with it then u can always load it back if u fail

sorry I havnt had a chance to look at anything
how' is oc
