Hopefully i can make sense of this.

Computer is in a cupboard with a digital sound card,

In the room next door is a projector on a shelf which runs via VGA cable from the computer.

Am going to buy a projector screen, the projector (Sony XPL-X1000 i believe) is going to be around 2-3metres from the screen, how big of a screen will this give me so i know what size screen to get?

I want to be able to switch between playing sound in my cupboard when playing games on my computer to playing sound in the room where the projector is.

What's the best way of doing this?

Will i need an AV Reciever?

Various ways.

the cleanest way is probably get an amp with A/B speaker outs put speakers B in the cupboard, and A in the projector room. Then it doesn't matter how you hook anything up, as if you want sound in the cupboard just select speaker B and if you want sound on the projrector select speaker A.

Things get more complicated if you maybe want a different sound in each room (play a game AND watch a movie both with different sounds) or you want surround sound in both rooms for example.

Or you could just get 2 sound cards use one with it's own amp/speaker setup in the cupboard, and the other sound card for the projector. etc etc.
