Got hold of a copy of System Shock 2 and I am wondering what mods can you guys recommend? Anything I can do or add to the game to make it better? As it's so old.

Also does it run on Windows 7?

On your first play through I recommend using a mod called SHTUP. Have a look at this...

Iirc I did also use one other mod. It changed weapon textures considerably (they do look very dated imo / Thief 1 engine).

I don't suggest you try using too many mods on your first playthrough, read through see what you think.

Here's another useful site...

After a real struggle I managed to get it working on Vista 64. I'll install it now on Win7 and let you know. I'd be interested to know myself.

Edit...ok, it crashed first time but what you need to do is open the SS2 folder, locate the file LGVID.AX and rename it to LGVID.AX.BAK

This will at least get you started. :)

Ok, well I just thought I'd list what I've done in the way of modding this amazing title. I was planning on restarting it anyway.

After installing the game, I downloaded SS2tools, then SHTUP, SS2 mod manager (though I tend not to bother with it normally) and Rebirth02.

Will update as I add more mods. :)

I've got it running on 7 x64... Will update when I get back home to check which mods I've installed and how it's all configured (was a bit bodged if I remember).

SS2 co-op is buckets of fun.

Thanks for all the info guys got it working now.

After installing game I run SS2Tool_v3.5 followed by SS2MM_1.10 which I used to activate shtup_beta6 and SS2_rebirth_v02 in SS2 Mod manager :)

LGVID.AX renamed to LGVID.AX.BAK

Had to mess about with the key bindings a bit, but got it sorted now.

Will start playing it now and report back if I have any issues.

One thing I did notice is when I click the Intro button at the main menu it does nothing, is this normal?

Yeah, I think the videos are disabled...something to do with a codec iirc. Just jump on to youtube and view them there (just make sure you don't spoil it for yourself by watching the wrong one). This should help :

I think I may have installed too many mods, got some corruption when I start the game, no key bindings work (not directly related to the usual key binding bug iirc).

On top of what I mentioned above, I added the Secmod, weapon textures, Alyamod and Straylight mod. I didn't notice any conflicts with the descriptions. Oh well, I'll just disable one and see if that removes the problem. :/

By the way, played it for about 30 minutes or so and I can see why the game is so popular.

Went for the psi training mainly. Chose OSA at the start. What did you guys choose?

I'm shocked (:p) this game hasn't had a complete overhaul graphic wise yet. I missed playing through it on release (I bought it, but only got about 10 percent in!).

arc@css you should try and get the videos working dude, as I stared from the beginning again after fixing the video issue an in the first 20-30 minutes there was at least 3-4 clips that I missed. At least 1 of them which explains how the hell I got there. lol.

Youtube is not the best option really, as it's hard to tell when the next video clip is, also annoying having to minimize go youtube watch come back every 5-10 minutes.

The guide on that link definitely works. I am on Windows 7 64 bit by the way.

You're right.

I started on that page where it says 'Instructions for SS2 original videos', made the changes but no videos. I'll keep tinkering away until its sorted. Time for dinner now, I'll have another look later. :)

About 2 hours into the game now. No crashes or any abnormalities. Great game. Shame some people cannot enjoy it as they let graphics get in the way.

I remember playing this.

Scared the bloody life out of me as a kid.

Brilliant game, should be updated with amazing graphics, would be pretty good :)

12 hours in, getting close to the end. Great game. Would definitely recommend to anyone who liked Deus Ex. The story is not on the same level, but game play is close I think.

arc@css did you fix your video issue? :)
