Hi there, I've had this problem for a while and I haven't been to fussed to get help but here I go.

When I shut down my pc everything seems fine, power lights turn off (FD R2), Screen turns off, hard drives spin down, then my fans keep spinning, it will do it till I hold the power button to properly shut it down. This does not happen everytime.

PSU is ruled out since this is a new one and happened with the old PSU (in my old case). I think it may be my motherboard giving up life.

My Specs:
Q6600 (on stock atm)
ASUS p5kc
Corsair XMS2 4GB
Fractal Design R2 650w PSU
ASUS 4850

Any ideas guys?

sounds like an issue with the bios, tried updating it?

and also if you leave it like that how long do the fans stay on for? on my old pc it would keep the case fans on for 2 - 3 mins and shut them off after. i guess its to getrid of a lot of the heat buildup

Does sound like a motherboard issue. BIOS update is a good idea, worth a shot before splashing out on a new board.

Bios upgrade is first step and reset defaults, have you tried a fresh windows install by any chance. I know it doesn't sound related to this but I remember reading something like this before.

Mmm thats the point this only happened since windows 7 but it seems like everything has stopped, will try a BIOS update when I can work out that USB flash thing.

Ok just update my BIOS just waiting for window7 to sort the drivers out, if there is still a problem will have a look at ACPI, and if that doesnt work will just give up can't be bothered to re-install 7.

edit: 2 shutdowns since update and haven't had any issues, will see if it can carry on

cheers guys
