system spec/build ?

When I used this case in someones build I stuck them in the middle holes, so the "lip" went into the holes on the motherboard to help locate it.

ahh gotcha, yeah i guessed they may be for location to make screwing in easier, but hadnt seen the mobo yet so didnt know if they went into where i have put the existing standoffs or if there was additional holes for these.

I am so impatient, i wont sleep tonight cos i know everything is arriving tomorrow, i am like a kid when i know im getting new stuff...LOL

Cheers for your quick replies, i am sure i have plenty to come ;-)

i just realised that my coolermaster case is supposed to have a VGA holder ?

Is that needed to install to my grfx card tomorrow or is it a missing item i can do without ?

Cheers

ahhh ok gotcha, well it was supposed to be in the box so i want it anyways, but good to know i dont need it right now, thanks.

Also i watched 2.37 and i am sure there was supposed to be some mention of a coolermaster case but all i could see was a hot chick ;-)

She doesnt come in the box.

shame.

What are your opinions on ram coolers, seen a few videos online now of new system builds and people using ram cooling fans ?

are they not OTT now with all cases like this, it seems to me there will be plenty of air flow and fans going to keep things cool.

mind you things have changed so much i may be wrong.

They are unnecessary/gimmicks.

yeah figured as much, i know ram gets hot but im guessing with the water coller taking care of the CPU and the top fan and front fan things should be good.

Seen a few configs of the fan setup for the corsair hydro h80 now.

most seem to favour the fan attached to rear (replacing stock case fan) blowing out, then the radiator, then other fan again blowing out again ?

With the front fan (front of case) obviously bringing air inwards cooling hard drives.

The top fan providing air for everything else

is this correct ?

Thats about it,

The Two fans either side of the radiator are whats known as Push/Pull, so line the fans up so they are both pushing rewards out of the rear, I would also ensure the top fans are blowing upwards and then that leaves the bigger front fan bringing air in.

The fan that was on the rear (now occupied by the H80 and its two fans) can be placed on the side panel or infront of the PSU on the bottom .

If your case is on carpet, have the PSU fan facing into the case so deep carpet pile doesnt obstruct the bottom intake/filter, If its on a desk then have the PSU mounted facing down so its sucking in cold air and expelling out the back of the PSU.

ahh ok yeah i was wandering about the spare fan (removed from rear to accomodate h80)

So when you say in front, you mean on the bottom of the case between the PSU and the drive bays ? pulling air in or pushing out ?

And yeah case will be on carpet

If the case is on carpet then have the PSU facing up, place the spare fan on the side panel sucking in, last thing you want is dust/stuff being sucked up from the carpet.

So intakes are the front/side.

Exhausts are the top and the H80 two fans, the PSU will also take air from within and expel it out the back.

gotcha.

so arrow on the side needs to point inwards for the side panel (cables at rear) which sucks air in.

The top fan is setup pushing air from in to out the top.

There is only one fan at the top and is by default setup towards rear so over where the H80 fans will be, is that ok or should i move it along so it would be above the ram ?

Doubt the position of the top fan will make much difference, as long as its pushing upwards (hot air rises) then sweet:)

ok fair enough.

Listen, i really appreciate your support and patience.

Ive been in IT for many years but its been donkeys since i got my hands dirty and with the changes in recent years it is a steep learning curve, so i really am grateful for your time.

Cheers

so the accessories with the case has 4 plastic revits, i presume i can use these to mount eh side panel fan (in the clear window) without the need for screws ? or do i use the screws i took out from the back when i removed this fan ?

and i guess if i uses these revits then the whole assembly is pushed through from the inside and not the outside ?

Cheers

mmmm just tried them, they only just go through and it is pretty shaky on there.

I can pull it off without removing the rivets with a little force if i wanted too

i used the screws and was careful not to overtighten, it is secure now.

I just didnt know if the plastic rivets were for that purpose for the perspex panel, but they are not long enough or secure enough.

cheers

so got everything (well the SSD didnt arrive though it said it was in the box but they are hopefully sorting that out)

Is the mounting bracket which goes on the back of the MOBO for the corsair cooler supposed to have a little play in it ?

I have screwed in the risers as tight as they go (hand tighten anyways) and there is still a little play, not much but a slight, is the bracket supposed to be tight onto the back of the board or should i be able to move it like .5mm or so

Not completely sure, As long as the risers are secure then thats the most important thing as the H80 pump/head screws down tight on to the risers.

they are secure but then with the pump screwed down the whole assembly still moves in and out away from the mobo/cpu like 0.5 mmm or so it is not tight, i didnt know if it should be

ok so all good in the hood so far, all put together (bit of cable management to tidy up yet though and SSD tomorrow, right now im running off the HDD.

noisy as hell though, the fans from the corsair are really kicking out some decibels.

I havent figured out any controls or BIOS setting yet though.

I did boot into bios and temps are

cpu 23-24c
MB 27-28c

but i either need to figure out some control or buy some quieter fans as these things are horrendous

The Corsair H80 has a button in the center to push? which turns the fans up/down.

yeah i tried all 3 settings and the noise or speed didnt change.

i plugged them into the regular mobo fan plugs.

I am guessing that doesnt effect the but ton control, either way they are noisy.

I currently have it set to the corsair airflow in method, i will probably change it tomorrow to what you said about pushing out instead, do you think this would effect the noise level ?

Yeah they need to be plugged into the pump for the fan control to work:)

its been a long day...LOL

yeah sorted that now, quietened down much.

Though still a little on the keep you awake side, may invest in queiter fans later on

time to explore the bios and such like now.

Everything is running at about 25-27 degrees
