Greetings one and all.

I am looking for some advice and opinions on the system I have come up with. The goal here is a moderate gaming system on a budget of £500 (which of course I have already gone past. Oh well.) with possible room for overclocking, increased memory and a blu ray drive down the line.

Here is the spec I come up with.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11220-00-20G) £134.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4440 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £131.99
1 x Asus Z87M-PLUS Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £94.99
1 x Aero Cool Dead Silence Gaming Black Mini Tower Windowed £72.95
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 450 '80+ Gold' 450W Power Supply (CP-9020066-WW) £65.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Single Channel Kit (HX313C9F/8) £59.99
1 x Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 Drive SATA 6Gb/s 3 2.5" (7mm height) Solid State Hard Drive - (SV300S37A/120G) £55.99
Total : £630.98 (includes shipping : £11.75).

I already have a monitor, O/S and 2 1TB drives for storage. The other things to consider are space and noise as the machine will be living in a small bedroom. I went with the Aerocool DS case for both its size and noise reduction as from what I read it seems to tick a lot of the boxes I wanted. However, I have no direct experience with this brand.

Thoughts, opinions and suggestions are all gratefully received.

with your budget, you're gonna have to make sacrifices.
but not all sacrifices are *that* bad.
you can't go intel for that budget and expect a "k" processor, rather an amd 6300
specced 2x4gb ram instead of 1x8gb. and 8gb is fine for gaming. wont need more
better ssd and psu
chucked in a bdrom for good measure ;p

lol. i still think that case is fugly, and paying a premium for that corsair badge =x

Tis a bit over-bearing but its growing on me, Like Bane. Actually a lot like Bane.

Anyway a case with 240mm Rad support, Up to 420mm Long GPU's, 4 Hard drive bays, a LED fan and a window and you still think £38 is a 'premium'?

Good point stulid, the Z3 is a great bargain. :)

My thanks for your time and thoughts. Payday is nearly upon me and I will soon have my final budget to work with. One day I may be able to do this with out a need for working with limited space and with limited resources but for now I have some set things to work to and some things that can shuffle around.

Then there is that slippery slope... Ugh. Crampons attached and sticking in, lets try this.

must it be matx?
if it must, then must it be the aerocool ds?
you're spending far too much on:
a) the case imo (and that matx mobo is not as good as the m5a97 r2 - the m5a78 uses an older chipset)
b) the psu

My skills with a Dremel are like my skills with Molecular Biology - non existent and I would probably create a monster if I tried.

I thought the size difference was far more noticeable. Now I have checked dimensions of the cases (aerocool vs zalman vs xigamek) I can see that they are not as dissimilar as I thought. This becomes not so much of a problem. So my thoughts are now of noise and noise reduction.

Assuming a normal midi tower case what can be done to stealth it?

Current layout.

And good grief! On budget, is such a thing possible?
