System Temperature

I've always had a problem with high system temperatures. I blame most of this down to my case, a Cooler Master Mystique 631 - a good looking case but not the best for cooling, as the front intake fan is somewhat blocked by the HDD cage. in addition, my 8800 GTS 512 also adds a significant amount of heat to the problem....

I have just installed an EP45 UD3R gigabyte motherboard, as I was getting random problems - I'm pleased with the M/B but the system temp hasn't dropped at all, which i was hoping it would.

My system operates around the 54C mark, with the CPU idling around the 26C mark and only rising to 46ish C under prime95.

Is this system temp too much??? - will it cause problems??? I have got a couple of antec spot coolers which i might install, pointing at the south bridge which feels as though it is the hottest heatsink - I'd rather not add to the noise, however, if it isn't necessary...

Thanks all

How tidy are your cables? Seemed like somthing trivial to me but after tidying them all up and tucking them out the way, my temps dropped by around 8-10 degrees when running prime 95. Not such a big decrease at idle, but still worth it if you dont want to add to the noise.

Plus its pretty much free to do, just takes time (and maybe a few cable ties/sticky hooks)

i have problems with my asus amd board (can't rememeber the type right now) but if the "motherboard" sensor went above 45 degrees then i would fall over if overclocked.

Have you not got any options to add more fans ? or a spot fan on the problem area ?

I just wonder how accurate your 'system' temp. is &/or what its actually reading.

Unfortunately I have no experience of the motherboard or easytune so I'm (as usual) a little in the dark.

Obviously the Southbridge may get a bit on the warm side - especially as its passively cooled - but this could well be normal. Any answers on Gigabyte's own forums (assuming they have such)?

Sorry cannot be more help :(
