Any ideas?
I will have a browse myself now but am a bit behind now jus had to wiki sandybridge haha.

Thanks!

You can just about afford the cheapest Sandy Bridge combo for that price:

Intel Core i5-2300 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £141.98
(£118.32) £141.98
(£118.32)
Foxconn H67MP-V Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) £69.98
(£58.32) £69.98
(£58.32)
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel (GVP34GB1600C9DC) £37.99
(£31.66) £37.99
(£31.66)

£249.96

However I'd suggest trying to save another £50-70 so you can get an unlocked chip and a full ATX motherboard.

Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller - Black £44.99

HA strange i picked the exact same combo.... i forgot to mention i want a new case. but i dnt pay postage :)

how do you mean and unlocked chip. the i5 is Quad core right? Yeah i might push for the Asus ATX board.

Thanks

You could probably get away with a alright am3 board ( 880 chipset )
a phenom ii quad core (the 955)
4gb Geil Ram
should come in on budget, get an after market cooler if you can and overclock the chip upto atleast 3.5ghz preferably 4ghz+

What problems are you having?

The Q6600 is a great chip.

I have been through this with soo many people - My P5Kc and the Q6600 just dnt like eachother.
Usualy from 'cold start' the PC turns on a nd does nothing... EVERYTHING powers up (except monitor stays in standby) but does nothing!

Takes a few restarts for it to finally POST and load windows after hat its a dream. But because of this issue never been able to Clock my CPU or RAM to its capabilities!!! as after the false starts as they were, it says "overclocking failed enter setup ... blah blah."
GG. tried everything!

also in the asus forums there are many a people with this problem on this chip and board. can take up to 10 or even 15 restarts to work.
