Hi all, been a while since I've been in 'the game' of pc parts so to speak. Current rig is as per sig, into a 3440x1440 monitor. Modern games seem to be really showing off the 3070 memory limitation and I'm now generally on lower settings with DLSS to keep a good framerate, MSI overlay shows 100% gpu usage generally and 50-75%ish cpu typically for my games.

So, I know I'm getting a new GPU, and I know that's going to be an RX 9070XT. The question is do we think that's enough, or should I also look to swap out the rest of the system and use it as the excuse to swap to an ITX AM5 system (with a 9600x or 9700x probably to keep the 65w TDP, alongside 32gb memory)

Quick summary:
1440p Ultrawide res
3070 being replaced with a 9070XT
Is it necessary to upgrade the 5600x CPU to Zen5 or will it do another couple of years

Interesting video, thanks. Seems even at 1440p it's mostly GPU limitations, especially for the games I play out of those tested. Probably worth just trying it out and monitoring GPU/CPU usage in my games looking at that and upgrade CPU when I have some pressing reason to.

It's very worth just trying out a new card, because the difference might be something like this at 1440p:

Old CPU = 120 fps
New CPU = 145 fps

Which as you'll probably be aware is not the kind of difference your eyes will find obvious.

I reckon you'll be happy just with a new card. Go for it, nothing to lose here.

I'd go card, BUT the thing is 5600x bundles are selling at good prices and AM5 has come down a lot as well, so it won't be TOO much to upgrade the platform.

Have a very similar current rig to yours, been also getting the itch for an upgrade after 4 years now. Will be interesting to see how you get on with the new GPU.

Just upgrade your GPU to 9070XT and then grab a 5700X3D when on sale. Wait or skip AM5 or buy in when AM6 happens for some much cheaper bargains. Make sure your running 32gig of ram. That's kind of what I did with my old AM4 pc but I bought a 5800X3D of the bay paired it with a pulse 9070XT and it it gives my other pc 7800X3D/4090 a real run for it's money, in fact I prefer gaming on it.

So, ended up splashing out for a full system upgrade moving to AM5 and ITX, both because I got the bug and its been 5 years since the last build but also going ITX means the case can move up onto the desk and free up some floor space for a storage unit/shelving (and can in theory pick up the pc and bring it downstairs to plug into the big TV if I fancy some sofa gaming). There's a couple games that seem to be hitting CPU bottlenecks (Indiana Jones being the freshest one in my memory, 100% CPU and 80%ish GPU most of the time). Picked up some bits on decent deals so all in cost excluding the GPU is around 900ish

Gone for the following build spec:
Fractal Terra case in Jade - should fit nicely with the oak desk and general earthy colour themed office
7800X3D CPU
Asrock Phantom B850i
32GB Corsair 6000mhz memory
SF850 psu (seems the 750 only comes with 2x8pin which seems an odd choice)
Noctua NH-L12S (with the 50mm GPU this is pretty much the limit being 70mm tall)
