System Upgrade - Need some advice

I want to refresh my system from a Core i7 8700K to the latest gen Intel i7, with respective board and RAM etc.

I currently have an EK X360 Extreme water cooling loop *no competitor links*

I would rather not replace this, as it still works great, but the CPU block is naturally incompatible with the latest gen boards and CPUs.

Does anyone know if I can/should replace just the CPU block and retain the pump, reservoir, radiators and tubing? (side note, I will most likely replace the soft tubing with new acrylic hard tubing anyway)

After 5 years, should I actually be replacing everything anyway?

Cheers

Your block will most likely be absolutely fine, you'll just need a new mounting bracket for it. Just go to the EK site and check compatibility of the block, it should point you to any extra mounting hardware you might need.

If you want to go hard tubing then you'll need an entirely different set of fittings though. Everything else should be fine with just a simple clean out.

Thanks for that.

So it looks like for the upgrade I just need an "EK-Quantum Velocity Backplate - LGA1700" which is only €0.01 on the manufacturer site.

Then to do hard tubing I need 8 of these fittings https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-w...12mm-hard-tubing-fitting-black-wc-9th-ek.html
Plus 4 tubes https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-w...tube-10-12mm-500mm-2-pcs-clear-wc-504-ek.html
Some tools https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ek-water-blocks-ek-hd-tube-d.i.y.-kit-10-12mm-wc-99e-ek.html
a heat gun
and the coolant.

Have I forgotten anything?

Given the price, I would go for a second set of tubes. I've never done hardline, but from what I've seen others on this forum say, you'll likely want to do a few practice bends and have spares in case things go wrong! Especially as it will be your first time.

Not sure about the kit, is it a separate pump and res? If so, then 8 fittings is right, otherwise you might only need 6. It should be fairly obvious, based on how many you've got now!

Otherwise that should be it. Good luck!
