Ok I am currently running a 6 year old pc with a single core socket 754 athlong 64 3200+ in it with a gig of ram and a 6800 GT (on last legs).

Just got a new PSU so got 650W to play with which should be plenty, so looking for the below:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Grpahics Card
Don't need windows, have copy of 7 waiting.

For now I have dual monitors each with 1280x1024 resolution so nothing high but will be looking for a nice 24" monitor in a month or two so higher resolutions will be needed for gaming.

Pc will be used mainly for typical office work and gaming of all sorts.

Bearing in mind what I am upgrading from i think anything would be a step up :p but looking to spend around £400 absolute maximum but anything less would be nice so I can get monitor sooner.

So any suggestions? Will likely buy next week some point as paid Friday.

Ah good, yeah that's a great PSU, I've got the 750W version.

You could also try the tri-core chip and hope it'll unlock (not guaranteed!) with the 1GB version of the GTX 460:

A tiny bit over your budget, however possibly a better option for when you get the 24" screen.

I wont need many other slots on the board so would it be better to save money and get a micro atx board? as just seem to be lacking slots and crossfire which I wouldn't use anyway?

also is a quad core Athlon II better to get over an Dual core Phenom II?
