Have an Asus Pundit P1-AH2 using Vista Premium 32 bit and Latest BIOS and Vista Drivers from Nvidia but the system does not shutdown.

When I select shutdown, I get the blank screen so monitor turns off/no video signal but computer is still on, also the system does no go into stanby or resume from it.

The S3 standby never worked proeprly in XP either, but at least it shutdown, I think it is related to ACPI device driver, as in XP I had an unknown ACPI device and no driver was ever given By Asus for it, now in Vista, if I click the unkown device in "Device Manager" and choose "get driver from internet" it downloads and installs the "Intel Quick Resume Driver", which is Ironic, as I don't have an Intel Chipset let alone an Intel CPU..

Anyway Asus never really done anything about the S3 standby issue in XP, never gave a solution to the Unknown ACPI device, and doubt they will so anything with the Vista Issues.

Anyone have any clues to get the system to at least shutdown properly in Vista?, had a look at the pwoer options in vista but they are pretty limited..

one of you has a raid array in your sig
could be raid driver issues, i had them with xp for a while my drivers took ages to shut down the hard drives. a year long wait for a driver update from abit fixed this for me!

as for vista did it find your raid array when installing?

Yep, vista found the array no problems.

I'll try leaving the system for longer before hitting reset/off then and see if it does turn itself off.

Nope, not at all. Vista picked up the RAID array fine by itself. I did however install nvidias vista 64 raid drivers from a USB flash drive anyway.

im having the exact same problem on Vista Home Premium 64bit :( My system just wont shut down so I have to keep doing hard shut downs. Vista is installed on my 36Gb Raptor which it detected withotu the need for a driver.

Mine used to do this, figured out that it was because that Off symbol actually hibernates the computer, you have to click the little arrow then click shut down!

Been doing that mate, if only it were that simple though.

You can change the default action of that button via the control panel's advanced power management fucntions.

Thats what I've been doing :(

its not just solely a raid problem, if it it is the chipset it has trouble turning off the hard drives, does anyone have this problem with vista on pata hard drives?

Hi guys

just a suggestion. In advanced power management, you can configure what the buttons do etc. Maybe try going into there and changing the options to "do nothing" for the "power buttons and lid" and "shutdown button" options. Then click save. close the window, re-open the window and re-select "shutdown" in those two options. Maybe vista will somehow re-set or reconfigure for proper shutdown?

I know it prob sounds a bit silly but thought maybe worth a try?
