System will only boot using onboard graphics

have you set bios to use pci grapics? had to do this on a board of mine before it would recognise the gpu

^^ that was what I was going to say - my last system wouldn't boot if the onboard graphics were enabled... same with my current board, if the onboard audio is enabled, the board won't use my audigy...

The options i have in bios under initiate Graphic Adaptor are
iGPU
PCI/iGPU
PCI/PCIE
PCIE/PCI this option is current

There is a section called iGPU Multi-Monitor which is set as disabled? but i am only usiong 1 monitor

AFAIK, If you have iGPU selected, then you should plug the monitor into the motherboard, not the graphics card. Could be the Display Virtualisation thing. Or change the graphics settings in the bios (probably PCIE / PCI).

Problem solved, it would appear my graphics card was too powerful for the old monitor. As soon as i plugged into my normal screen there was no problem.
Thanks for all your help, i'm sure i will be back.

Thinking about it, it could have course be the vga connector on the card is duff as the better monitor works of the DVI connector. As i won't be using the old vga connector again i'm not bothered.
