Hi

My system won't boot up at all and I am thinking it is possibly the PSU. Usually when I turn my rig on I get a high pitched whir from the fans for a few seconds then it slows down, POST's then boot's into windows.

Today nothing.

There are lights on the Mobo but when I power on it's not even POSTing or getting to BIOS splash screen. I can't get into BIOS.

System set up is as follows

AMD Athlon 965 BE
Asus M4A79XTD EVO
8Gb Geil DDR3
Asus GTX 275
A-Data SSD
OCZ GamesXtreme 650w PSU

I have tried booting with 1 stick of RAM and just the boot drive but nothing.

Any suggestions ?

Well, it's about time for that crap capacitor Xtreme PSU to start showing signs of doing what it's meant to do (=fail) if bought at the same time with those other parts...

Tbh the PSU has done pretty well. Had it about 3 years now and its served me well.

What PSU would you go for with my setup and possibly changing out the VGA for a GTX 460 or 2x GTX 460 SLI ?

Have you tried the paperclip test on the PSU? (unplug the PSU completely from the PC. plug a case fan back into the PSU. bend one end of a paperclip into the green wire plug of the 20 pin PSU plug. The other end goes into any black wire plug in the same 20 pin plug.) switch on. if the fan spins, it may not be the PSU anyway. no harm in trying.
