Hi,

Just about to put the "guts" of a new system together, anybody see anything too wrong with the following:-

Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£164.49

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR10662GK) £129.24

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) £343.09

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler £37.59

I already have:-

8800GTX
2x Dell 2407 24" TFT's
Corsair 620W PSU

Cheers

Looks good to me, what are you planning to use the system for? Gaming?

Gaming, some VMWare stuff, re-encoding to x.264.

I've thought about just getting dual core instead of quad but the geek in me can't help itself!

Hmmm... if your VM's then perhaps 4GB? Just so you can assign the virtual machine 2GB. If you re-encoding then may aswell go quad core and treat yourself!

Personally I'd do that - the quads don't look like very good value, and I hear they run pretty hot too? Granted it is cool (err.. on the geek front) saying you have a quad core system though. :D

Hmmmm well dual core is:-

£150

and quad is £343

so you pay of £43 premium of getting them on one CPU, I think the quad isn't supposed to overclock as well though.

For pure CPU horsepower though I think the quad is pretty good value.
