T-Mobile e71 to o2 Iphone - possible?

I have a Nokia e71 on a T-Mobile business package that work pay for. I don't have my own personal phone at all at the moment. My missus' o2 monthly contract (£20ish), is due for renewal shortly, and I want an Iphone 3G.

1) Can I put a T-Mobile sim into an o2 Iphone, or can it be unlocked to allow that to happen?

2) Does T-Mobile lock their handsets so that I can't put an o2 sim into it?

I imagine my hopes will shortly be dashed, buy am interested in knowing if there's a way to get question #1 working.
