So basically I have been a T-Mobile customer since they were One-2-One and its renewal time. Since the Galaxy S2 has got a great write up I thought that would be perfect.

Upon enquiring about my upgrade the best deal they can give me is the one they already give to new customers?

Clearly 10 years of loyalty means **** all to these people.

What a mug I have been >.<

Loyalty means nothing to these telcos mate.

I was with orange for 15years (Seriously - we didn't even used to have reception in huddersfield back in them days lol!) - and they didn't bat an eyelid that I was leaving.

Aye when I told T-Mobile I was going to leave they only offered me the same deals as new customers. If they had done a decent deal on a Desire HD then I would have stayed.

Nevermind. If they have no loyalty neither do I.

Was expecting a joke. Almost as disappointed as you.

Vodafone won't do me any favours after 7 years either, but that's iPhone contracts for you.

Hmmm I spy a colleague ;)

You got out of your contract last year when they tried to change the terms didn't you?

T Mobile offered me a crap deal on a Galaxy S2 as well.

Phones4u or Dialphone (forgot which) have it on a far better offer than T-Mobile do........on T-Mobile network.

I just went on Cex and bout a mint condition Motorola Defy for £155. Obviously this S2 is far better but worth 3 times the price? Not a chance.

ALL THE NETWORKS ARE JUST AS BAD AS EACH OTHER, IF YOU GET A REALLY GOOD DEAL YOU'VE BEEN LUCKY!

ARGHHHHHHHHHH!

*so many threads like this!

and even when you agree to the bad deal you then find out they have no stock, and won't have any for weeks. Did my order on the 3rd, and looking at the end of the month if I'm lucky.

Got a nice Friends and Family 40% off deal from Orange now courtesy of a mate. 45 quid a month down to 27 happy days.

As bad as it sounds, you were probably not profitable enough to be worth keeping :)

This really, loyalty doesn't mean you are worth much if you don't spend much money with them.

I remember at t-mob when CS was told that if the caller was a bottom 50% value they were to deal with the initial query only then get onto the next call where they could potentially upsell. If you aren't worth anything to the company then you cant expect much back unfortunately.

Not like many companies do much for loyalty anyway. Not like you can go to Sony and say 'I've bought your tv's for the last 10 years, I want a discount on a new one".

no loyalty any more, people have squeezed them hard over the years and they have nothing left to offer.

Though the t-mobile girl is hoooottt.

We don't get 4G girl as 4G in America is HSPDA, a 3G extension. GG americans.

Here are your options for buying a phone and some background:

Buy from 3rd party whom the network gave £XXX bonus to (to acquire you), to get you to sign up. 3rd party gives you some of this back back (redemption, xbox etc...), keeps the rest for profit, everyone is happy. Customer is double happy if they can stack a double (cashback + redemption)

Buy from 1st party who will hopefully reward your loyalty/purchase with a discount like Oranges 10% renewal discount but seldom offer any other incentives. Their costs are low when you do this, they are happy. Hopefully you are too because you got a decent offer.

THE PROBLEM: 1st party notices you're tight fisted after 24 months and don't go over your free minutes, work out you're not so fun to be with / give minimal profit so at renewal they make it not so fun to re-sign by upping the deal in the networks favour or at best - same as new customers deal. You either sign up or leave, if you leave you probably will cause the same issue at another network so it's now their problem.

The problem for the networks when you leave is that you may just go around the block and re-sign up again with the 3rd party (who they give even MORE cash to) but stay on the same network which is why they make it oh-so difficult to do PAYM-PAYM number porting, no one likes effort when you can just re-sign up which is why loyalty is a carefully balanced seesaw, you can't be too mean (profitable people run off) or too kind (you get less profit).

3rd parties like cpw/p4u are the bane of the networks lives. If they could kill them all, they would.

I've never been given a decent offer direct through the network, and whenever i've told them i'm leaving for a better deal they've always said that they couldn't match it.

Cancelled my t-mobile contract last week and got a S2 from buymobilephones on t-mobile, saved myself £80 on the phone purchase. Plus they had (and still had i believe) stock, so got my phone next day.

I've always been flummoxed as to why people expect telephone companies to care that they've been with them for ages... It's not like they make any more money for keeping old customers on unprofitable contracts, why would they bother?
