T-Mobile micro sim?

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody has managed to cut down a standard T-Mobile sim card to Micro Sim size?

I have an iPhone 4 on order from Apple, but my sim card has a large gold contact which covers the whole of the width of the card surface.

I have a sim card cutter which i have tested on an o2 sim, and it works perfectly as the gold contact is a lot smaller. Doing this on my T-Mobile sim would cut into the gold.

My sim card is only 3 months old, so i am wondering if T-Mobile are using this style sim card now to prevent cutting them down.

Although T-Mobile are now selling the iPhone 4, i popped into a shop and asked for a micro sim and they told me to phone customer services. I have done this and they say they have none in stock even though they are selling the iPhone 4......

Has anybody had any joy in either a) cutting one of these larger sim's down, or b) successfully managed to get a replacement from a T-Mobile store/customer services.

Thanks

Ive cut down my PAYG sim from tmobile...hopefully ill have my iphone4 by then so will give it a go and if it works ill then cut down my tmobile contract sim card. I picked up one of those sim to micro sim cutters off a site, cost me about £10 i think so wasnt too bad as i dont trust myself to cut it with a pair of scissors.

Also i rung up tmobile to enquire about the micro sims as they are now selling the iphone4...they said they had plenty of stock but wanted to charge me £10 to replace my sim with a micro sim...i couldnt order one as their systems were down or something so ill wait till i get my iphone4, try my PAYG sim which i cut down with the micro sim card cutter and see if it works..if it does then great if not then ill just get them to send me out a new micro sim card.

The cutter does cut into the gold contacts from what i noticed...dont know if that will make a difference...if it does then ill send the micro sim card cutter back for a refund...no point in having it if it doesnt work properly.

I did mine. Cut it around the gold perfectly - didn't work. Cut into the gold strip a mm or 2 from the bottom and used some foam on on top to push the sim down - works fine.

Cheers for the response guys, really helpful.

I too have purchased a sim cutter, and tried it on a spare t-mob sim i had but threw it as it had cut through the gold contact... a little annoyed i threw it now.

I've just ordered 4 pay as you go sim cards, so i can practice on them before i destroy my contract sim.

It's the whole consistancy thing with t-mobile that annoys me. Customer Services tell me to go into store, and store say i have to contact customer services. Then customer services tell me they aren't on their systems to give to customers at the moment, to which i answered "but you are selling the iPhone 4 so how can you not have any"......

In fairness both people i spoke to were from India so they probably arent as well informed as staff in the UK.

My iPhone is on 3 week backlog so i guess i have time to play around with pay and go cards first, but an actual proper micro sim would be nice

Ha 3 week backlog my arse...i ordered mine 3rd of july and just found out today that i wont get it till the 6th of august...which makes it over a month now :/...absolutely ridiculous as it was shipped 24th of july so according to apple it takes them 2 weeks to deliver the bloody thing...highly annoyed isnt the word lol.

Yeah wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was longer but not much we can do I guess. Noticed apple still charged my card though and didn't wait till it was ready to be shipped. Sitting in their account making a tasty profit whilst I get more impatient for my new toy.

Mine has a big gold chip - I had to cut a bit off the bottom. There's guide out there with pics i'll see if I can find one.

If you could find one that would be awesome! I've had a search around but I can't find a guide specific to cutting down a tmob sim.

I couldn't find any guides that I saw before. So I took my sim out and here are some pics of where I cut. When I originally cut it I spent like 15 minutes cutting it perfectly and sanding it down exactly around the gold contact - this was a big mistake as the sim wasn't making contact in the correct places. I saw a guide and it showed to cut off the sim at the bottom - so what i've done now is cut it in place and use celoptape on the back to make sure it stays in place, a bit of a botched job but it works.

Awesome, thanks for taking the time to do that, your help is appreciated.

In the same boat as a lot of people, Orange want to charge me a tenner to use an iPhone, even though I'm already using one. Has anyone had any success with finding out whether you can cut through the gold contact?

I am on an Orange contract and I phoned up and asked for a micro sim and they said the same for me. But I took it anyway cause I was on HTC phone before and they said I would get unlimited Data and Wifi.

Anyway in the mean time I cut my current Orange Contract sim and it worked fine. At first I cut the wrong corner as you can see in the pictures below. But every works grand!
