Hi,

I just spent the last couple of days trying to upgrade my T-Mobile phone/tariff but I can't seem to get a good deal like some of my friends and some of you guys.

I was hoping to sign up to this Flext 35 tariff and get the -25% discount + a Nokia N70 but T-Mobile are playing hardball.

While keeping my old number the best deal they have offered me is £120 for the N70 and the 25% discount on the tariff.

Seems silly as if I was too cancel my contract and sign up a fresh one with them I would get a free N70 and the discounted rates. . ..duh!

Why is it that a new customer gets offered these deals and then people like me who have been loyal T-Mobile users for 6 years get shafted?

How much do you normally spend on your bills??, if your a high user then its in their interests to keep you but if your a low user then they wont be so bothered. Id try again but tell them that you will leave them if they cant do you a better deal etc.

I just rung up o2 to see what my upgrade options are and they offered me the exec model for free without me even asking for it. usually i threaten them with leaving but i think they like me too much, i spend about £200ish a month on my bills but a lot of that is due to work stuff and browsing the net on my 6680 a lot.

Just the way it is unfortunately. Are you going for the Web n Walk too? Another £7.50 (-25%) a month, but that might get you the handset free, they seem to be promoting it for W&W.

I have no idea how I managed to get the Vario free, I'm hardly a big-spender with them! What's your current monthly spend?

Hi,

thanks for replies. It turns out I am a skinflint, my average monthly bill is £20.00 :p

Made a few more phone calls, squeezed a little better deal from them

£90.00 Nokia N70

£26.25/Month Flext 35

Just got the address of my local T-Mobile shop, gonna talk a walk down there now and see whats up!

Option #1: Cough up the £90 for the handset, take the -25% reduced flex35 tariff @ £26.25/Month, then sell my old handset on auction (Nokia 6230) to maybe recoup £50-£60 (towards the N70 costs).

Option #2: Cancel my 6 year old contract, sign up as a new customer and get a free Nokia N70 + a reduced rate tariff on the Flext 35. Lose my old number and then sell my old handset on auction as well :D

I would just say ok looks like i will have to cancel my contract and goto o2 or vodafone as they will give me the option I need

I bet they soon change their tune

Fraid thats the same everywhere :( Its why ive just moved from o2 to T-mobile. All they are bothered about is the new customers and new connections. They dont care about those with them already. Ive come to the conclusion that its best to jump networks each time the contract ends, least that way you can get the best of the offers thats out there, with the only inconvienience being the number port process and even thats only 1 day of service downtime.

I tried that with o2 and they basically said fine, go ahead and leave us.

Again as i said before it depends on how much you spend with them per month, a low user which i suspect you are....they wouldnt have any qualms about you leaving. Whereas as a high user such as me, they would want to hold onto me for as long as they could as i make them the most money, i spend roughly about £200-ish a month on my bills etc.

An example is me ringing them up this morning and enquiring about the o2 exec pda phone and without me even asking, they said i can have it for £60 and a 12 mth contract. Before i could say yay or nay, i was put on hold and the person who answered the phone said they will give that to me free of charge because im a high user etc.

But saying that sometimes it can work the other way, sometimes being a loyal customer usually can get you a great deal but that doesnt happen too much.

I am a low user in the fact that my bills dont come to much more than the rental but thats cause the package I have with the minutes and texts matches what I use. But this aside I would still be a low user when I jump ship to another network so it seems they are willing to take more risks as far as new customers are concerned. The fact remains if you cancelled with o2 and then started a new contract they would welcome you with open arms.

I was with o2 for 5 years and that comes to an end in 5 days when my number ports accross. o2's customer service is dire too. Firstly you have to pay to call them, then when you speak to them they practically lie to you about stuff (happened frequently to me) and above all else they didnt seem to care even when I mentioned I could get a much better deal for my usage type elsewhere. Their reply was "Well if thats what they offer ....." aka "Fine go ahead and leave then".

I have moved every time, as I always found they offered the crappiest phones, like you said.... 'new customers only' (just like the tv advert :D )

just moving from 3, but thats cos its crap lmao

Thats what im going to do each time the contract comes up for renewal now unless they can offer me something to stay on. If they all carry on like o2 tho it doesnt seem that they will.

on a similar note... I cant go with t-mobile, I cancelled early a few years back due to poor service etc and unhappy with the service overall... now they wont entertain me :(

so sod em, was getting a vario so getting a xda mini instead with o2

Seems like they barred you for finishing your contract early, seems a bit harsh. The flext deals and web and walk options are really good with them at the moment too. Thats the reason i have moved to them as the options they have at the moment suit what I do with the phone.

could be that, or I am unworthy :P

yeah i really liked the deals they had and price plans

not the end of the world as any network must be better than 3 currently is for me lol

Hmmm, I'm having a rethink. . .

Can't seem to squeeze a better deal from them than £90 for the Nokia N70 and then get the reduced rate of £26.25/Month (18month contract).

Looking at it from another point of view its not to shabby a deal as the N70 is retailing for approx £299.

I got £100 worth of phone upgrade for free so if I don't wanna cough up the extra £90 for the N70 I may just have a closer look at what I can get for free (Nokia 6230i etc).

The positive note is that the tariff is amazing, there even offered me the Flext 35 contract at the reduced rate of £20.25 if I opt out of a free handset upgrade. . .

Other points I wanted to mention was the very helpful and friendly service offered by the staff at the T-Mobile shop @ 410 King's Road London (thanks Nasim!). This guy really bent over backwards to get me the deal I wanted, so kudos to him, looks like carphone warehouse is out of a job!

I also got a tour of the full range of PDA/Windows Powered units (Vario, Sidekick II etc) looks very interesting. . .

T-Mobile are being helpful. . .

Hi, just a quick update!

Went back to the T-Mobile shop @ 410 King's Road SW10 this morning on a mission to get some Nokia N70 action and a Flext 35 discounted tariff.

As mentioned before the best offer I had recieved was £90.00, but today the guy checked his system and it said I could get the upgrade for £40.00?

He called up the T-Mobile office to get some codes and they informed him it was actually £90.00, even though the system said £40.00. When he came off the phone he said "Don't worry, I will do it for £40.00"

So there you go, two days ago I was asked for £120.00, and today I paid £40.00, now got my Nokia N70 + a Flext 35 contract @ £26.25/Month, job done! :)
