Well, I have been with T-mobile for about three years and its time to upgrade my phone. I rang them today and said I had seen on the web, they have the k850i for £30 pm on flext 180. I thought, yeah go for that, I am currently on a k800i and £35.

But no, they wont allow me to upgrade to this. I have to pay for the phone and get the £35 pm charge, plus pay for voicemail. Yet if I canceled the the contract and took out a new one on-line, I could get the deal. What the hells that about? A loyal customer for 3 years they have now lost. I am getting a k850i from 3 tomorrow for £32 pm inc 50 mins voice calls, plus a memory card. Bye bye T-mobile, your rubbish.

Rant over.

Anyone one else getting grief from them or is it only me?

Just a little correction to your info incase anyone is wondering!

That deal is £27 month for 1100 mins or SMS (or any combination). The 50 video mins is £5 (which has to be taken out with that phone). = £32.

If you are going to use a lot less minutes / SMS, you can select a lower Mix & Match price plan. (without any problems with having to pay more for the handset or anything like that). It is easier to increase your price plan at a later date if you are using more minutes, but you can't decrease it at all during your contract.

Back on topic:

Sadly some mobile firms are deciding that its better to risk lower price points for new customers, as there is a chance that they will be high spenders. Where existing customers are not really in the high spending brackets - they appear to giving out a "couldn't care less" message.

Its more the case that as an existing customer they have already 12/18 months data of your spending habits and if you arent worth holding onto they wont.

I dont think thats a bad policy just different to when they were head over heels in keeping customers. I recently upgraded with TMobile I got the Vario 3 for free on a £40 contract - though I hadnt upgraded for 2years and regularly went over that spend per month...

Mobile Operators have 3G licenses to pay off so expect this to be the norm from now on...

Hi

ps3ud0 got it pretty spot on, the carrier business model essentially places a value on the customers account based on usage and spending patterns. based on your usage they would offer an appropriate deal.

I dont really see how you have gotten 'grief' from them but i'd think twice before going with three; their customer service is ropey to say the leaste.

I am with t-mobile and didn't fancy any of the upgrade deals. I just ordered a new phone online and cancelled my old contract. I paid for 2 contracts for a month but I used all the credit up anyway
