I havee just got a text from 'UpgrdCentr' saying that as a reward for my loyalty I will receive a free camera phone upgrade if I hone a number.

The odd thing is that all the texts I ever get from T-Mobie are from 'T-mobile' not 'UpgrdCentr', I upgraded in december anyway, there are no internet links in the message (which there usuay are) and the phone number is a 0207 london one.

Is this a scam?

I had wondered if it was an April fools joke gone out early or something.

There's lots of dodgy companies about that try to upgrade through them. It's not a scam as such, although they use some pretty dodgy tactics (not making it clear that they're independent from your operator, pressuring you into unsuitable deals).

A camera phone is nothing to be excited about. Even £50 PAYG phones have a camera these days.

Phone up T-Mobile and see what they'll offer you. :)

There are many companies trying to poach your TMob contract, just tell them you've already upgraded and their system is wrong.

Another pointer if you are due an upgrade, is the online upgrade working for you? It's down for me (and many others) and they had a good offer on there but the phone people are refusing to accept it's there. Need to upgrade before tomorrow :(

Also, AFAIK, T-Mobile, unlike some networks, do not allow any 3rd parties to do upgrades on their behalf

Correct :D
We stopped companies 'cold calling' about 2 years back.

Just as a FYI - if you dont 'have' to upgrade at the minute....I would wait a while ;)

spill the beans! im due an upgrade tomorrow, is it worthwhile holding on for a little while - if so, what we looking at?

I wanted to upgrade now because I'm just after a money off thing, I'm going back to using my o2 exec as I really only use my phone for data and the odd call/text.

Online I was offered my current contract (flext20+wnw 18mth) for £12.50 instead of £22.50 but on a 12mth deal, I was told this was not possible even though they said 18mths were used to offset the price of the handset. I'm considering going O2 PAYG as it would only cost me a tenner a month for the same thing no contract.

considering no one else does upgrades for Tmob I've had calls from 3 different companies over the past 3 months offering them to me.

You shouldnt be getting any 3rd parties calling you about upgrades, if you make a note of the date/times/numbers then customer services will action these and remove the company from doing upgrades (against T-Mobile at least)

Yea come on spill! My n95 contract is up in a few days :)

oh and why the hell is the N95 classic still on old rubbish firmware on T-Mobile?

i just got called from 0845 412 2700 which is T-Mobile's upgrade outbound team (verified because i called 150, as i never talk to someone who cold calls me about any sort of account details), your one sounds a little dodgy,

Still no update on this? I think IainB was talking rubbish :p

Well, as our team designs everything we sell priceplan / services wise I should hope that I know what is going on!!

Unfortunatley things are being NDA'd left, right and centre and with only a few Iainb's working at T-Mobile HQ working out where a leak come isnt too hard :D (especially as things get cross posted to other forums, which T-Mobile watch )

IainB - why havent Tmobile got any new phones in!? My contract expired a few weeks ago - Nokiawise you havent got anything since the N95 a year ago almost to the day I signed up!

The dreaded NDA :(

Why do they honestly bother? It would be much better to let their customers know what is/will be available!

I scrapped my contract, got fed up of the lies. When the online system came back on I signed straight away for the £10 discount on my flext20 for 12 months, when the paperwork came it said 18 months. So I've gone back to o2 PAYG, no contract, stick £10 on my phone and I get the data bolton, 300 texts and enough minutes to call people for a quick update if needed, so about the same I would be paying tmobile whilst tied to an 18 month contract at 12.50.

Tell me about it....we are a nightmare getting new stuff in. I honestly havent got a clue why we are so slow :(

Its well known for companies to get wind of what another is doing and either a) launch the same thing first or b) have discounts ready on launch date, (not helped by the number of people changing jobs between companies!) and with the market as it is, surprise (like Flext was) causes major market disruption
