Seems the mobile companies don't want to hang on to you anymore. For the last 7 or so years I've not paid for an upgrade and now I've asked for a SE W810 they want £130 from me.
This months bill was £132, last months £240 etc and they still want me to pay?

I asked for my PAC code and it was given to me straight away. Orange here I come.

Doesn't seem overly generous, I'm surprised they were so easy about losing someone who spends £200 a month. I daren't think how you make that many phone calls though...

wow thats shocking, u tried going to new customers and seeing what contracts you have offered, i know everyone keeps going on about the new flext contracts, but they really are amazing value for money, and would assume they would save you a fair bit of cash.

In all fairness, that's shocking. I know I normally come down on the side of the networks when people complain about upgrade costs, but that's ridiculous.

Go elsewhere, you'll get treated much better.

I'm undecided between Vodafone and Orange. I normally buy my phones from CPW as many come unbranded but they don't have any W810's in stock yet.

I want as many mins as poss with around 500 txts

Orange = Panther 75 + 500 txts = £97.00

Vodafone = Anytime 1000 + 500 txts = £75

The Vodafone price is very attractive but I've not heard good things about their phone branding. Can anyone comment at all or Dolph, can you give me a good reason to def join Orange?

O2 and 3 are a no go so lets not go there.

you can always try out the phone and if you think the branding hinders it then take it back. To be honest the only time i've been annoyed at branding is Orange's funny logo system. All vodafone do normally is whack on some vodafone logos (same as a theme) and a screensaver, which you can turn off. Its only sometimes you get silly things like not being able to use a mp3 as a ringtone, but they dont do that any more afaik.

If ou do not go for a handset upgrade with T-Mob you can get a tenner off the line rental per month for the duration fo the next contract.
On top of that the flext tariffs are very cheap, so potentially you could get what you are after (with existing handset) for £27.50 on flext 50. It'll go up to £37.50 after 18 months but thats for 540 texts and over 1000 minutes.

You could then get the phone you want on a different contract at £25 a month.

Having said all that I find it hard to understand why TMob refused you an upgrade seeing as you spend much more than I do and I can have a free MDA vario as an upgrade if I want.

I am more likely to go for the flext web and walk £30 with unlimited net access on my old MDA compact for £18/month for 18 months though.

My fathers been on Vodafone for years witha £30 tariff , as he is semi-retired he's not using that much so wanted to drop the tariff down at renewal (next month) . All the shops told him complete ****** so he decided he would go for T-mobile flex-20 online. I told him to phone Vodafone direct and have a whinge & see what he could get ;)

Result

Anytime 200 @ £10 a month on a 12 month contract with a free V3i :D

Indeed! I refused an upgrade this year and got a further £10 off my line rental, i now pay £3.99 p/m thats 750mins (tmob/landline) off peek and 50 free texts.

I also have my other phone which is a 3 phone with 750 mins anytime any network with 150free texts per month which is £40 p/m but paying 1/2 price for the year.

Mabey it would be cheaper getting 2 contracts?

there must be some reason as to them not giving you the phone. Im quite shocked that they havent tbh.

Are they sure it's not a computer error?

I was sorting a new phone on Orange, and she said it came up as £130. She said 'that can't be right, you're in month 11 and your spend's quite high'. I agreed, pointing out that my last bill probably paid for the phone on its own.

She put me on hold and then told me that for some reason I was in the wrong band and that it was indeed free.

I rang T-Mobile a couple of weeks ago and was told I had to pay. I was then offered £5 off my line rental if I kept my D500. Not content with that, I said no, came off the phone and rang straight back to speak to someone else. He also said I had to pay, looked at my bills and offered me £15 off my monthly line rental if I kept my D500.

Once again I said no. New customers get 25% off and a free phone so £15 is not good enough for me.
I rang back again this morning which was when I was told that I could have £50 off a handset, leaving £130 to pay for the W810.

I'm fed up with asking them now and my PAC number was given to me without hesitation. I'll take my money elsewhere, just got to decide where now

Edit: I'm also not interested in 18 month plans.

As has been said many times in this forum, they only give you what you're worth. If you don't spend enough on line rental to pay for a new phone and still make them a decent profit, they're not interested.

So £75 line rental + £10 txt bundle isn't enough per month?

In this case, from the information given at the start, he's paying plenty enough to be treated well by a good provider.

Oops - my mistake. I didn't notice the reply was from the OP - so i thought i had no information! :p

a lot of people are getting these kind of responces.

i say ring vodaphone and tell them you want the w810i for free on a contract which is the same as the flex 35 , bet you they match it .
