Lads,

Basically travelling to USA this summer again... I have EU Iphone 5 A1429 GSM model I think.

Wondering whether it will work with pay as you go T-mobile in USA?? Anyone had any experience with European device but on US network provider?

should do, its a quad band phone so should work anywhere in the world. :) Also wont necessarily have to be t mobile as network locking only works in the original country so you could get At&T/verizon etc if they do sims that suit you.

Problem is... When you ask Pay as you Go in America, they look at your as if you just landed from mars... They just dont get how can you want sim only without a phone... :D:D

I heard that T-Mobile USA finally understands that some people just want a sim... The thing is, I need the sim mostly for internet browsing and I dont want to get stuck on 2g since that would make the phone pretty much useless.

Contact your current network as soon as possible to get your phone unlocked, as when I travelled to the US recently tried to get my iPhone unlocked at the last minute and couldn't as they said they needed 28 days and that it would be 28 days because of Apple.

It will work fine but you will need to get it unlocked, but try to have a look at the reseller networks as they are substantially cheaper than the main networks. I used Spot mobile when I was there, but because of the different bands they use for 3G in the US could only use EDGE at best, but it was good value for money. 500 UK landline minutes for $10 + $5 for 30 day credit to get the basic plan.
You are best looking for a AT&T reseller if you need 3G when over there.

I bought my iphone from apple so no lock problems...

Thanks for info.

I was in New York just over a year ago and tried buying a sim for data in a few different places. Seems much more expensive than Europe. Was quoted something like $40 for a sim with data. Just made use of the wifi instead.

When I used to go the states a lot used to just go radio shack or similar and buy a $15 motorolla.

Calls were dirt cheap, calling home was about 10c a minute. For internet I used to just use wifi when eating etc on other device.

Sorry for upping the thread,

But basically if I go to T-Mobile store and ask for a sim with this plan, 30$ per month

Will it all work out for me??

Does anyone have experience with T-mobile USA with EU Iphones? I mean I dont really want to be stuck on E speeds since that makes the phone un-usable?

I got a T-Mobile SIM in New York and it worked fine in my UK iPhone 5. The 3G in NYC and San Antonio was patchy at best. Expect to see EDGE more than you want to.

how fast is E?? I never came across it in UK.. :(

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) 2G -- 9.6Kbps
GPRS (General packet radio services) 2.5G -- 35Kbps to 171kbps
EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) 2.75G -- 120Kbps to 384Kbps
UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) 3G -- 384Kbps to 2Mbps
HSDPA (software upgrade to UMTS) 3G -- 600Kbps to 10Mbps
WiMAX/LTE "4G" -- 3Mbps to 6Mbps average, 10Mbps+ peak download speeds.
