T-mobile Web & Walk

hi,

i am looking at moving to T-mobile as soon as the Sony K850i is out and i was thinking of going for a Web & Walk plan and i wanted to know if this service is 3G or is it GPRS ?

also whats your opinion on web & walk.

It's 3G if you have a compatible phone, otherwise it's GPRS

can't speak for the service personally but a couple of my friends and workmates use it, and they like it, coverage can be a bit patchy though

as far as i know the K850i has 3G

it has 3G/HSPDA/EDGE , t-mobile support all them

Although if you go for the basic WnW package (£7.50) you don't actually get HSDAP. You have to go for the WnW plus (£10.50 or there abouts) to get HSDPA. Its hidden in the small print and most shop staff don't know this either.

Thats news to me - I am on WnW and get HSDPA - well I get 3.5G so says my N95 and its pretty zippy.

When did you did you sign up? If you were one of the early WnW users then you'd have HSDPA.

Nope I am not, I signed up in April or May I cant remember. I think everyone is on HSDPA to be honest.

got that phone as well about same time, u found any where for programs for the phone also what icon appeals instead of the 3.5g

It just had a 3G Icon , have just flashed it to WM6 & I think may have "lost" HSDPA as speeds have dropped to 380k ish

and im on a well old tariff pay £35 for flex t 35 then £7.50 for webnwalk less 25% which is niceeeeeeeeeeeee

you got the exact name of that rom mate? and how do you know you get 1.4 download speed?

I tried a few but they didn't all enable HSDPA on the phone, the ROM I use is Schaps_WM6Pro_WWE_3.60a-0823_Full . I use it with Radio version 1.50 and it appears to be stable.

The speed test was on a site called www.bandwidthplace.com , it has tests for 3G / Edge etc, I've also tested it from my laptop using the phone as a modem on www.speedtest.com and it gave the same results

OIOI youve managed to use it as a modem with your laptop!!!

Please explain how!

I managed it with my mda pro but cant do it with this rom i have the options are different.

I might try flashing to the one you have if you reckon its a good un

Im using WM5 os 5..1.465(build 15673.3.3.1)

With that ROM there is a button to act as a modem in the comm manager. Plug the phone in to the PC , let it sync etc then press the internet connect key on the comm manager screen.

The first time round the PC will do its "detecting USB device" stuff then it's ready to go , after that just plug & play

its funny because when i done a speed test with my k810 it reported to me i was downloading at1.3 Mbps , i tried the same test with 3g turned off and it gave same result.

whats going on here is that the test isn't performed on your phone but the t-mobile proxies.
