This game is annoying me now, basically because I'm crap I think.

I'm at match 6 of my "Rookie Circuit - Medium" I'm Jurgen and I can't beat Jesper, I get fairly close but he beats me 2-1 in the end.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I tend to use all the shots as I should, but he always manages to power just normal shot (green) past me.

Any tips on how to get good at this game??

Thanks!

I've still not properly got the hang of it, but you know you can press 2 shot buttons together to form another shot don't you? Or use diagonal positions of the analogue stick, I believe anyway, though not tried them yet.

Yeah I had heard that and gave it a shot, didnt help tbh.

My problem is countering the opposition's shot, I can never tell what colour the spin is to get a decent return in with the same shot"

Maybe its just me but I tend to ignore what type shots the other person is playing. I know you can build u super spin but generally I find your better off picking your shot sooner and thus having more power.

I'm not going to claim I am a master at the game but it seems each of the characters have a clear strong shot/area and once you set them up there they just blow you away with an amazingly powerful shot. Generally so long as you avoid this area they struggle to win and will eventually make a mistake.

Jesper has a weak back hand. Go for his back hand and you should win!

wait until you play some people on Live!
I thought i was half decent at table tennis vs the computer, but some people online are just  1-7 1-7 thrashing before!

take a few steps to the right on ya server so ure looking pretty much diagonal across table and play it with right spin and right on analogue (view) and ull get perfect serves most of the time :p

Keep to his backhand. I also beat him using the Yellow spin shot, he seemed to overhit it quite a lot, also keeping a hold of the left bumper for slower shots keeps the speed off you :)

Cheers...

What's the best shot to use against smashes? As when I hit it back it just lobs in the air for him to smash it back at me again, and again...and again.

I recently faced up against Jesper in the finals of the Rookie circuit this weekend, and I managed to beat him in 2 straight games without him winning much at all. I struggled far more vs Cassidy but beat her in the end.

The technique I used was a lot of backspins (Y) and I also played a fair few long rally's right back at him (no directional shots) until I had built up about 20 or so shots and then changed direction a lot and this seemed to put him off his game a bit. Also, I found serving while standing a little back from the table worked quite well too. They get used to your routine and when you change it, it will catch them off-guard and cause them to make mistakes. They're just as vulnerable as a human opponent. Also, I have found that when they start losing, they seem to be hit hard psychologically and their game diminishes.

The smashes on the other hand, are quite hard to deal with, especially from Jesper when he goes crazy. I just tried to put backspin on it and use the soft-shot button to try and calm it down, but most of the time this didn't work and I'd concede a point. It wasn't such a problem because it only happened about 5 times during the entire match.

Hope this helps you out a bit. I just find that variation and a mixture of soft shots with backspin seems to make a big difference, finishing off with a powered sidespin shot to one of the corners. They don't seem to get those very often.
