So I've been pennyless for a long time, but I'm not now and I am looking around at the new tech thats come out since my last income...
Tablets seam all the rage currently and I'm seeing people on tv with them, on busses etc, but I was curious what the main use for people is?
I am upgrading my phone to a galaxy S3 come January and I am wondering if I will gain any benefit from having a tablet, or will a good smart phone cover all the bases?
I currently browse the net on my phone and listen to music, but I have long boring bus journeys in to work and back every day and am wondering if theres more I can get out of tech :p How do you guys pass time with them?

I did have a lot of fun with team viewer on my mobile remote accessing my home pc from the phone for quite a long while, and I'm sure that will be a lot better on a tablet with larger screen space.

Mainly
Email, Facebook, webrowsing, youtube, films/TV shows, Callander and everynote
Pretty much exactly what I use my phone for however it is far more enjoyable using a large screen and that really is the biggest difference and yes it is worth the money for a bigger screen.

However when I replace it with a full blower win8 tablet.
It'll be used for gaming and as a desktop as well.

I thought tablets were stupid till I used one, it really is a lot better doing normal phone things on a tablet. One thing I really like (iPad here) is how the tablet apps work, the UI genrally makes good use of the larger screen. I belive W8 RT is a great tablet OS as it gives you so much control with single swipe here or there and if it gets the right apps would be the best thing to get, till then I think the iPad is king.

Hmmm so its def good for idle time then. I have no idea what the current market is like, are there any good ones for around £200 that would play 720p vid without issue

Hmm it seams that I could massively excel at my current job IF I could somehow come up with a tablet app for our publications. All we need is a customizable book viewer so we can scroll through pages (provided from PDF) and have an index of mini icons below it when needed.
I'm wondering if any of the android tablets let you program on them?

You "program" (dev) on a PC using the Android SDK, and test your apps in the in-built emulator.

No need to own the device to develop an app.
