tablets to replace PCs?

You aren't getting this future thing are you! Of course most of your customers still have desktops/laptops, why wouldn't they. You have stats in front of you from global sales and growth changes, look at them. Then go read opinions and trends.

yes, but you keep spouting the regular users don't upgrade or want desktops or laptops  im not saying there isn't an increase in sales, or that there wont be an increase. but I have no evidence to suggest that from my own experience a massive change is going to happen any time soon.

They don't upgrade, it's a tiny percentage that upgrade.

Want? I said they don't need a desktop as mobile devices gain market share and acceptance people will change. Again this Si future, not last year or two. Thats why you haven't seen a change yet, comeback in 4 years and tell me you haven't seen your market drastically change and then tell me how your upgrades are doing in a decade, where they'll be non existent for home users. People still doing it, will be us lot who want need to pay.
Wphow we use computers is changing, what we use computers for has changed. The future is simplicity and throw away devices. Not upgradable baige boxes.

Fail to predict the future, fail to stay relevant.

Just what's happened to Nokia and Ms, in the last 4 or so years.

but could you not also get the effect of people buying these cheap Chinese clones, hating them, and then that tarnishing their views on the need for a tablet.

No, Chinese devices are pretty good these. Days and they don't have the advertising in the uk. Apple hold the market ~70% and also harder to get hold off, cheap Chinese devices generaly aren't available at normall stores and the cheaper models in stores are really rather good.

i read something the other day where it was predicted by Q4 2013 i think, android sales will be on par with the iPad.
the only experience i have had personally with tablet repairs is the Chinese clones still using the resistive screens and poor software. i don't know what the current crop is like as i stay out of that side of things. sales and fiddly repairs aint my thing :p

You should start learning.
As the market is shifting and you are doing yourself out of 60+% of the market allready and that's only likely to grow. Get in on the smart phone repairs now and then you're covered which ever way the market goes.

iPad sales growth was also meant to halt last qaurter, it didn't. There's many wrong predictions along with good. But I am 99.9999999999% sure that tablet predictions of huge market share (only behind smartphones) will prevail.

i do not plan on still doing this in 3-5years time. the money is poor and i get no enjoyment out of it anymore.
i do agree though with you that the OP should train in these areas to maintain their business, as however it goes smartphones and tablets will be around for a very long time, so repairs will always be required.

i don't think the sales were what apple had hoped for though. and with the addition of windows 8 to the market, i can only see apple getting less sales unless they price it more competitively
