Taboo - BBC1

Just watched the first episode and didn't think it was anything special... will see how next week's episode goes before deciding to persist or not

Had my eye on this for a while with Tom Hardy being one of my favourite actors.

The first episode did not dissapoint. Dark, moody, gritty and gripping. The episode did a great job of grasping my interest without giving too much away about what's to come. One things for sure, Hardy's character is unhinged with an underlying broody nature that's enough to strike fear into anyone in his presence.

Love it. Count me in for the long haul. It's worth mentoning that the rest of the cast so far are also incredibly strong.

Suffers from terribly uneven sound - despite the whole R128 thing the audio was mastered as if the audience was to watch it in cinema and with all the whispering and spoken parts done in low voice I found myself constantly reaching for remote - inaudible mumblings in one scene, banshee screaming few seconds later.

Bad sound plagues BBC.

That aside, what did you think of the content?

The reason this worked so well was that it kept ALL of it's cards close to it's chest.

Not only is Hardy's time in Africa a mystery but his family bloodline and his fathers death is too. I think we kind of know why his father died now and we can guess some of the other details but it really was gripping.
Like many mystery based stories making the reveal as exciting as the expectation in the viewers mind is the hardest thing to pull of. Lets hope the BBC have nailed it.

really enjoyed it. what i like best about it is you can feel the grit, grime, dirt. get so fed up of period dramas where period clothing and settings and everyones dressed like a show pony. :D

suits him well. look forward to the next episode.

Just caught the first episode tonight. Yep, I'm gripped. Thought it was a great start. Delaney scares the crap out of me, definitely something almost supernatural about him. Also, the production was of the highest quality, as was the acting. Finally a decent use of my £150 a year license fee.

The cast was like a Game of Thrones reunion :D I counted four in the first episode.

I think this would go down well in the US actually. Will be interesting to see what they make of it. I assume they will see on BBC America?

Anything with Tom Hardy in it is a win in my book. I thought it was a very good first episode. Also nice to see a few familiar faces from Game of Thrones, and Moxey from Auf Wiedersehen Pet :D

Stephen Graham is also in it, so even more reason to watch :)

Very intriguing, proper adult drama unlike silly Sherlock (not that I'm trying to compare target audiences!).

We really enjoyed it. Picture looked compressed af on iplayer though...?

Another reason for the females at work to swoon over Tom Hardy constantly.

Finally a decent use of my £150 a year license fee.

So you didn't enjoy War and Peace? Or Planet Earth II? Or Top Gear? Or Peaky Blinders? Or The Missing? It's cool to hate the licence fee :).
