Tae Kwon Do

I have never liked this thing of some clubs/organisations charging 10!!! times more for a black belt grading than lower grades. That would put me off.

That's the trouble with greedy organisers and affiliations. Mind you, CDK isn't like the most transparent organisation in the world, along with the BTCB and the BTC governing body, each wanting more control over the other - and with control comes price hikes too.

But that's another matter.

And Mat, good luck with the 4th Dan, aren't you happy with just staying at 3rd Dan? The amount of responsibility mounts for a 4th Dan... (Future-to-be) Master Mat.

You are coming out saying that Muay Thai is what all top fighters train in - I'm merely asking for some proof, as this isn't what I think is the case. I'm not disputing that Muay Thai is an excellent style to use in MMA, but there are other, equally good styles. The good thing about MMA is that no single style can dominate the others.

i disagree BJJ tends to be where mma is going since its just better.I trained judo for 2+ years then went to BJJ and got owned for the first few months due to things that work in judo but dont with bjj(also didnt help that my mate whos the instructor taught everyone the **** you choke to everyone untill tehy could do it with there eyes shut :P

Get the black belt then do the boxing, otherwise it could turn out to be something you always regret and can never quite get back to. Also on the plus side, if you box, do weights and are a black belt, the mere mention of your name will bring a shudder to the spine. :D

do what he says

BJJ is where MMA grappling is at. The vast majority, but not all, of top grapplers are BJJ-trained. This says nothing about the striking skills though which I think was the focus of the discussion.

Also, which choke? STAR you is not a recognised technique I'm sure...

BJJ is predominant on the ground.

It isn't much use when you're trading blows with someone ;)

TKD is a sport, ruined by the Olympics.

Go and spend the £500 on a nice holiday before starting a real martial art. ;)

On a more serious note, the first black belt in TKD means very little as there are a good few more (as I'm sure you know) before you get to the top rank. If you plug away doing something you don't enjoy, you'll wind up resenting it and maybe even getting injured.

I got to Light Blue at Jiu Jitsu before packing it in, as the discipline/art (and organisation) had become something I didn't enjoy. Yesm I was around six/twelve months away from brown belt, but I just didn't enjoy it any more.

If you knew anything, then you would know the distinct differences between ITF and WTF TKD.

I think I know what you're trying to say there...

Due to the nature of the art, TKD can be used in a competitive way. The decision to use WTF rules in the Olympics was a big mistake and gives the art a negative image due to the those rules not being as spectator friendly as ITF rules.
