Tailgating

I have heard my friends father go on an on about he moves into the opposite lane and then slams on the brakes, causing the other car to shoot past. Never seen him do it though.....

I just put my Hazards on and most people back off pretty rapidly. In all honesty I never really get tailgated unless I'm in a big queue behind a lorry or something, I am perhaps faster than the average bear on any given road!

Slowing down is safer yes. Bit of perspective required here, you can merrily ignore the muppet behind but if you do not leave enough space for your own AND their brake distance between yourself and the car in front, you're stuffed should you have to emergency brake. Simple as. Adjust your speed to leave a safe distance between yourself and the car in front, if you have to stop sharply keep one eye onthe rear view mirror and with enough space to play with you should'nt have any trouble.

exactly...

slowing down gives YOU more time to react, so instead of having to jump on the brakes you can ease on them.... allowing the idiot behind also to stop in time.

I must admit im finding i tailgate* more and more nowadays, im sick and tired of morons in the outside and middle lanes who just dawdle along holding up the motorway. If people learnt to use lanes correctly then maybe some of use wouldnt have to tailgate, obviously some drivers are just morons and will simply tailgate at the speed limit for no bloody reason, for those drivers its just best to let them past, some are real idiot and will try anything to get past you, its no point going all keyboard warrior on them as you will have more to lose.

*Note my tailgating means a car length away, so not in your boot sort of thing, unless you really pee me off, and dont bother with rear fogs as i have bi-xenons:p

I keep slowing down and if they still don't take the hint I just stop in the middle of the road ,they then overtake either giving me the finger or look at me a bit strange !
I use to get out of the car and have a go but the last time I did this the guy was a 7 ft black monster with a look of pure hate on his face, I thought better and walked back to my car :D

TBH Dude you sound like a bit of a tit and deserve a slap.

Tail gating is, sadly, an all to common sight just be safe as you can without being an idiot and learn to deal with it there is far more important things in life. That said new shape Passat seem to be the worst for it atm, maybe they are the new BMW driver

I slam on the anchors every time. I've scared the crap out of a few people, but they have been arogant young drivers not expecting me to react like that.

Just ignore them and carry on doing 60 (or whatever a safe speed is at the time).
Likewise, I do tend to find vans are the most common tailgaters in my experience...

It's always worth leaving a good gap between you and the car in front just in case...

My car doesn't have ABS, and may not be able to stop as well as the car in front if the worst came to the worst....

I had a white van driver up my **** in heavy traffic today. I was keeping a fair distance (while mainting the same speed) from the car in front but couldn't pull over into the middle lane because of various morons being a foot behind the car in front.

When I could eventually move over, I put the window down and gave him the old 'shaking fist' sign  If there's one thing that winds me up, it's tailgaiters.

That to me?

A flamer kit (or flameage of some sort) will be gracing my car in the not so distant future ;) :D

Got some other shiny bits to fit soon though which should keep me occupied for a while
