Take the political compass test.

I'm left wondering how some questions are interpreted. For example:

"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."

It would be wrong to interpret a reply to that question as showing support or opposition to having a one-party state. For example, I agree with that statement and I disagree with having a one-party state. It's a significant advantage but it's outweighed by more significant disadvantages.

My results were: -3.38 left/right (i.e. fairly left) and -5.33 libertarian/authoritarian (i.e. quite libertarian).

I think that's accurate.

EDIT: Hmm..that puts me almost bang on for the Green Party. I don't see myself voting for them, though.

Did it again, answering along the lines of where the Tories appear to stand at the moment. Came out pretty much spot on Conservative.

not sure if this test is right???

I came out near Ghandi when I expected to be up near the Conservatives\Ukip for a few of my opinions.

guess I'm more of a leftie libertarian than I thought.

JB

Wasn't Ghandi the guy who wanted foreigners out of his country, flouted trade and production laws and wanted his country to bring off-shored industry (e.g. weaving) back to his own country and decried the lack of civilization exhibited by those foreigners?

Maybe it's more of an issue with how you see Ghandi than how you see yourself. ;)

No Ayn Rands in the thread? I am disappoint!

I'm (mostly) an Objectivist. At least in the sense that on reading their positions I already agreed with most of it. However, I stopped part way through in disgust at the flawed and biased ideas the test was built on. I guess I can have another go at it for highlighting how stupid and offensive (and US-biased) the test is if people like.

Lots of God damn lefties on here... Y'all better watch your backs...

That's the thing. I came out as left leaning libertarian but I'd not consider myself left leaning at all. I tend to be centre right. I agree with the libertarian part though.

Against my better judgement and answering a whole bunch of questions for which no option actually represented my opinion and which often, in my opinion, were based on assumptions I find staggeringly questionable, I have now completed the test. Results as follows:

I'm disappointed to see that Ayn Rand (as mentioned by an earlier poster) doesn't appear on the chart. If I missed it, please let me know. Though I would not trust the creators of this poll to accurately represent her views.

EDIT: Scanning through the results, is it true that I'm only one of five people scoring on the right and only one of three scoring in the lower right?

Cool, we've got a female Gary Johnson! Do the lizard tongue! :D

On a serious note, there is a link to get a certificate which has all the mugs: https://www.politicalcompass.org/certificate?; just copy your values into it.
