Taking Action on Petrol Prices?

We are a nation of moaners and there are not enough do-ers out there! Action needs to be taken but as already mentioned people won't and can't go without using their cars! £1.50 a litre will be upon us next year I reckon.

For those of you who want to have a rant about Gordon Brown and the price of petrol leave a message on www.fuelprotest.net :)

Are you talking to yourself again?

But you do, last two elections, barnstorming labour victories, all they promised to do was ramp up tax and I know I didnt vote for them.
:)

Well, here is the consequence.

Rather this than the tories though eh?

Not another ill informed post:rolleyes: , why do you think we have such high fuel tax in the first place? Go back to Tory chancellor Gordon Lamont, he introduced the dire ' fuel tax escalator ' The labour government abolished it however or we would be on £5 a litre by now.

FUEL ESCALATOR

In 1993, the Conservatives introduced the Fuel Price Escalator as a way of both raising revenue and discouraging car use on environmental grounds.

The escalator, which annually raised petrol prices above the rate of inflation, was set in 1993 at 3% and later increased to 5%.

Its first effect was to add 3p to the price of petrol. When the Conservatives left office in 1997 the escalator had contributed a 11.1p rise to the cost of unleaded fuel.

Tax as a proportion of total cost stood at 76.3%.

The tax is there to discourage people from driving and encourage public transport. Also to make a nice tidy income for the government which can then spend it on treating you to nice hospitals and schools and fancy parties for their wives.

I know how to **** off the petrol companys! Get on the bus.

I think the issue is not so much the high petrol price but the high price of public transport which provides limited and poor service.

EDIT - there is no viable alternative to owning a car for the majority of car owners.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May!

Can you really see this happening? People will still buy petrol just to be alkward so it wouldn't work...

hopefully it will keep the poor people off the roads finally meaning more room and less traffic for those who can afford it !!

on a more serious note...when I was filling up yesterday a bloke id pull up at the pump opposite me and put 3 quids worth in..not even a gallaon these days..looked like and old rover 216..how far will he get on 3 quids worth of petrol?
