Hi.

Well we've being told, and we were told this last year, we may take a piece of A4 paper into the exam with various information we think will help us answer the questions.

We can have it crammed as full as we want it.

Now I think this is a bad idea, since you cannot do this in uni, should I do it anyway and take advantage of what we are allowed or should I not do it because I'd not be allowed to in uni so don't want to make stuff easier for me at the moment.

So basically, should I, or should I not?

Thanks
Will.

It's for a foundation degree.

We've being given information on what to research for out exams too, of stuff what will be, or may be in the exam.

I just can't help but thinking it's not preparing me for uni this, it's just making stuff easier and screwing me up for uni.

Do whatever the rules allow you to do, for any given exam. One of my questions, for one exam, this summer had a seen question... but obviously it was marked knowing that each student had time to prepare an answer beforehand - if I'd ~done it blind~ I would have shafted myself.

They'll mark your answers with the knowledge that you had notes... so take notes!

Yeah exactly, the questions are probably harder or the mark scheme will be harsher so don't shaft yourself.

Do it, also at uni you can have open book exams where your allowed to take books in and also seen papers where you see the questions a few days before but arnt allowed to take anything in

It's like saying I'm not going to have sex with my girlfriend because one day I'm going to go to a strip club with no touching. Take every opportunity you can.

on some modules on some courses at uni you can do the exact same thing in exams. So you should definitely take notes in with you. the smallest font you can read + double sided = pass :d

Why don't you make some good notes and take them with you and then try to answer the questions without looking at them. If you find yourself struggling to answer a question, leave it till the end and then see if your notes can help you.

The main part of studying is not learning to memorise everything that you might possibly be asked, it's learning how to make notes and how to remember key facts and methods. This is why they're probably asking you to make notes and take them with you.

And people wonder why grades keep improving

We had to memorise equations and stuff then frantically write them all down when the exam started.

Which is stupid :P Why memorise loads of crap that can be easily obtained from books while you work, when needed. It's understanding that counts.
