Taking the blame

Your boss is unhappy because you've made some suggestions and she can't take the credit for them.

My boss is unhappy because The Chairman found an error in something that I asked about and the Dept had been running with it for 3 years.
Because of his intervention we have now renamed it and I do know why she is upset.

Anyway, this thread is about Taking The Blame.
So back on topic - Have you ever taken the blame for something you didn't do?

To answer the original question :

No. Never.

Every person is accountable for their own actions. I am not, and never will be, held accountable for the actions of someone else.

I still don't really get how you could have 'dobbed someone in'. It's not really purely down to your superior considering the fact that the chairman asked you to contact him directly in any case.

Why not just dob the 'Big Boss' in to the chairman, that'll "learn" 'em!

The clue is in the highlights.
Theres a Chairman, a big boss and a Superior.
The Superior told me to get in contact with the Chairman which the Big Boss didn't like and I took the blame.
Everybody else got it.

No we didn't. Its so badly worded as to be confusing and now you are being condescending.

Theres a Chairman, a boss (big) and a Superior.
I originally met the Chairman who told me to get in contact.
My Superior gave me permission.
My boss didn't like it and blamed me for breaking protocol.
My boss then found out my Superior gave me permission.
My boss couldn't understand why I took the blame.
Dead easy and even my 2 girls just got it after reading it.

ANYWAY, anybody else ever taken the blame for something they didn't do?

They have lived with you for a decade or two and are used to your quirky ways? :D

When you say "even my 2 girls", are you SURPRISED that they got it - are they short of a sandwich or two?

Seriously though, I have NEVER taken the blame for something someone else has done. They might have their own agenda but so do I.

I reckon an interesting question would be how many people having taken the blame for something they haven't done, and also how many of said people have taken the CREDIT for something they didn't do.

I reckon there'd be a hell of a lot more people taking the glory than the fall.

Neither, I am far from stupid so usually make sure I don't give others the chance to steal my credit, nor am I soft enough to allow somebody else to make me the fall guy and impede my career developement. Careers can be rutheless and you have to look out for yourself. By all means help out your team, but don't be quiet or afraid to say you have done something if you have.
