Never heard about it until now. Do you need to have watched all the other animated series to enjoy this or can this be watched in isolation? Same with tales of the empire??

I get the feeling that Star Wars Rebels is referenced. Having never watched that animation I still enjoyed both of these 2 series. They are barely 1 hour long each season anyway, so it wasn't a heavy time investment!
Having said that, I definitely enjoyed Tales of the Jedi more, just as it had more characters I recognised.

BUT, the animation in Tales of the Empire is on another level. Some bits genuinely look like they could be shots from the films (episode 2 the shots in space, for example).
