Well i have a very fast computer upstairs (e6700 and 8800gtx) that just isn't getting used as i sit in the lounge on my not very fast vaio laptop (centrino 1.8 rubish ati graphics)

So i was browsing for a gaming laptop and have started to seriously consider a £3000 alienware one (that's with some modifications, fastest Amd mobile processor, 2x sli'd 512mb 7900's and raid 0 7200rpm hdd's etc)

is there anything else that is going to satisfy me (dell xps leves me uninspired)

i won't have the money for about 3 months (and some overtime)

so someone please talk me out of buying this

How much does it weigh? My mate bought one and found it weighed too much to be able sit in his lap for too long without his legs falling asleep. :D

Try the Dell gaming laptops , i have been told not to touch alienware , and i would not spend £3000 on a gaming laptop , somethings says no

Well, if a 10 second walk up the stairs is worth £3000 to you, then go for it!

£3000 is worth not getting nagged by the wife for sitting in the box room on my pc and that she never sees me.

instead i can sit on my laptop in the living room whilst she watches rubbish on the TV

the other option is to pay ntl/virgin media £25 to move my broadband connection downstairs then put the pc in the dining room!

and it's 6.8kg = squashed legs

or wireless, got to be better being infertile

yea i had an alienware laptop..cost £2.3k....went wrong after 10 months..sent it back to be repaired under warranty then it went again after another 10 or so months and that was that then. Can't say i was overly impressed! Whats worse is how gaming laptops really can't compare to a good main pc for games, i found myself just using my top of the range gaming laptop for browsing :p

ok i'm moving away from the £3000 laptop might just replace the vaio with something a bit faster (i only realy surf the net and download with it anyway) and then move my desktop downstairs and use that more.

so the next question is what to replace the vaio with?

current spec
centrino 1.86ghz
100gb hdd
1gb ram
ATI mobile 256mb x600

as you might have guessed i like my fast hardware but what's the sensible option?

Why dont you just USE THE DAM PC!!!! Your lazier than me.. and that is saying something.

it's the wife,
me sitting on pc upstairs causes arguments (i never see you etc etc)

sitting on laptop in living room creates less arguments but current laptop is slooooooow

I think I can see the solution here... the wife has to go.

try to get a mobile c2d and a mobile 8series card (they are out soonish iirc)

Will be good enough then for most things

C2d lappys are available from about £650

i can definately hold out for a mobile 8 series card

i have been looking at the moble c2d as i have been very impressed with my desktop c2d
