Talk me out of it

So basically he wants to waste quite a bit of cash going from a '14 plate saloon to a '15 plate avant? (assuming it's a 3.0 TDI he currently has and wants to move to).

If the trim, drivetrain etc is all going to be the same, then seems kinda pointless, unless you don't mind blowing £thousands.

He posted the spec of his current one about 7 hours before your reply :/

Going from a 2.0 tdi to a 3.0 isn't a bad upgrade but I very much doubt the figures add up.

OP - tell us your monthly payments and final settlement value (GFV) on your current PCP, from there we can work out roughly how good/stupid/possible this idea is

Well its not pointless if he has a need to carry stuff that his saloon won't accommodate. Perhaps he has bought a dog.

Well of course. Would have to be one hell of a dog to not only justify the expense of 'upgrading' but also not to be bothered about it messing the rear up. :p

In this thread? I need to go to Specsavers.

Current derv is S Line 2.0 170ps saloon, however thinking this morning and looking at the mileage in the current car it only done 9342 in 19months me owning it, so I've have been looking at getting a Petrol as I don't really do the mileage to warrant a diesel. I'm only thinking and nothing has been set in stone yet. If the figures don't add I won't proceed and continue paying more off the car.

Well the Avant would be better as I do carry lots of equipment and I do also have a dog that do sometimes goes in the car and the back would be ideal. It does not have to be a diseal or a A6 would be happy to go down to a audi a4 2.0 tfsi model.

This does seem like a lot of money to loose, but I do understand the swap, especially if you need the space, and don't need the economy.

Thank you for that, As the A6 model don't have petrol engines only the s6 which is way out of my budget, I've now looked at A4 2.0tfsi new shape, I know there is a 6 month wait on these, I'm led to believe.

Are you sure the S6 is way out of budget? I recently specced one up on Car wow, and with a reasonable spec, was coming in around £56k with these options:

Pearl - Sepang blue £675
Electric adjustable/heated/folding door mirrors with memory (when chosen with Technology pack advanced) - £0.0
Technology pack advanced - A6/S6 - £3500.0
3 spoke heated sports leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shift - £200.0
BOSE surround sound - £1000.0
Black cloth headlining - £0.0
LED Matrix headlights with high beam assist - £945.0
Valcona leather - Black + super sport seats - £0.0
Parking pack advanced - A6/RS6 - £1310.0

So obviously you don't need to put £7k of extras on it. Then it's not TOO much more than my 530d was (what I actually paid, rather than list). And will no doubt have extra residual value, so monthly payments on a PCP could be quite close to that of a 3.0 TDI Quattro A6 Avant.

Or just needs to shift stuff that isn't smaller than a suitcase.

Also: How long do you intent to keep the next car?

PCP is really not gonna help you out much if you get bored easy or like to swap out cars frequently.

Maybe PCP isn't necessarily the best option?

Can get much more car for you money second hand too ;)

Seriously?! There is not a single (non S6) petrol in the A6 range any more!!?? I cry inside at dieselification :(

Sign of the times I guess. The 3.0 BiTDI is amazing on paper though and sounds great, certainly not like a clattery 4 pot

Nobody buys those either tho so there are very few used ones.

All anyone ever wants now is smallest engine with maximum sports package and bling badges. To the average Audi buyer now it matters not that it is slow and unrefined as long as it says S Line everywhere, has 20 inch wheels, etc.

Then why don't you buy new then?

Can't stand people moaning about lack of certain 'big petrol' engines on the used market today, if the people who desire such cars never buy new then why do they expect there to be loads available?

Also doesn't the S6 cost significantly more money then a A6? Like £20k more?

About £10k more for a standard S6 compared to my 530d, I would imagine a similarly specced A6 would be similarly priced.

But the S6 residual value should cover a good chunk of that extra outlay, since the OP is going PCP, so the extra per month may not be too huge.

From looking at the Audi website I would say paying circa £850 a month for a S6 avant costs significantly more than a A6 3.0TDI black edition which costs around £600 a month (not to mention bigger deposit required on the S6).

What good would buying new make when there are no petrol engines available to begin with?

It's the same as Volvo, you can't buy a V70 with a petrol engine any more; no more T5s or T6s. They don't even do the D5 unless it's an Authorities order.

There is the £13k discount on the S6 though. And the larger GMFV, so the difference, I suspect, will be less than that.
