Talk to me about: Fareham

Driving from fareham to j5 on the M27 is madness
I do this every day and it really depends what time you hit the motorway, but from the times you say your gf works it shouldn't be a problem, as you say it's busy but not a crawl.
i live the titchfield end of fareham a couple of roads behind argos, B&Q etc.
I'm shocked how many Fareham(ish) people there are. I live just in Titchfield, behind B&Q etc too, Merryfield to be exact, and armed_gorilla's said it all. Nice area, good pubs (village inn is cheap and cheerful whereas the talisman is more expensive but still nice).

chandlers ford is a good idea
its almost bang on the sweet spot of winchester niceness vs southampton cheapiness
Definetly have a look at Chandlers Ford, nice area and as getto says, the sweet spot for you and your gf.

Chandlers ford, or north baddesley.

I live in Chandlers ford and work at the general too, 15 to 20 min commute so not bad really. Lovely area, a few local pubs and a few local tescos, plus there is the asda hypermarket.

I live in Fareham! I also know Ciphon and Eulogy IRL :)

I live the very top end of Highlands/Kiln Lane way. Not too far from Funtley which is all very nice. My area is very quiet, lots of fields and Fareham wood is a 30 second walk. Very family orientated, kids out playing on their bikes, nice and quiet at night - no trouble and peaceful.

There are some proper rubbish areas though, as with most Towns/Cities. Avoid middle/botton of highlands (Stow estate) as it's a hole and scum live there. All in all Fareham town centre has average high street shopping, nothing special. Same with bars. However, I'd go to Portsmouth or Southampton for a decent night out as I'm sure most would.

The train station is accessable and has some nice areas. As mentioned Gudgeheath Lane seems a nice place to live and there are some little cul-de-sac type places that might do. I'm more like a 5min drive or a 30 minute walk from the station.

I also work in Southampton, I have used the Train/Bus before. It's £6.50 return on train to Soton Central. Trains are quiet frequent in either direction. Although I'm no fan of public transport.

I ride a motorbike and it takes me 20-25 minutes, regardless, to get to Soton (J5 Eastliegh airport).

Definatley sounds like we need to have a Fareham meet! I suppose we could include Khaaan! too as he is only in Gosport. (*spits*) :D

I'd be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have OP!

I lived for many years in Locks Heath, and very much enjoyed it. Fareham is a nice enough provincial town with a reasonable shopping centre containing the usual shops.

Locks Heath area is probably nicer and whilst there is a railway station nearby it is sadly on the wrong line for Winchester and would therefore require a change of train at either Fareham or St Denys/Southampton Central.

Sadly though once thing you are not going to escape in this area is the feeling of living in a large housing estate - because effectively, that is what the entire area is - a large housing estate where one area blends into the next - unless you end up in one of the villages, like Bishops Waltham.

I'd quite happily move back to Locks Heath one day, and have it as a plan in the back of my mind to do so :)

I go to Southwick quite a lot, nice pub, nice village shop. Roads in and out are not great but the place is nice enough.

Wow, Cheers guys! Plenty to look through here. I work with a few people who live in the area too so lots of information available.

Due to no parking at all at the office I pretty much have to get the train to work, which limits me somewhat. I would also ideally not have to change. However somewhere Like Chandlers Ford is close enough that changing at Eastleigh might not be an issue.

Ill have a look at the places you have suggested. Cheers :)

Glad to help.

Instead of the train from CF to Winchester you could go by bus! I think that some train changes are at Southampton Airport Parkway, instead of Eastleigh. Depends on the train.
