I'm off to Prague in a few weeks, I've managed to live 31 years without ever going abroad so to say I'm finding the whole thing a little bit daunting is an understatement!

Just looking for advice / tips / places worth visiting, things like that.

I've heard pick pocketing is common out there so I will try and take precautions in regards to that but other than that I don't know too much else about the place other than its very pretty and there's lots to see.

How expensive is it out there for eating and drinking? Things like that really! Thanks in advance!

Ask the locals where to find Goldfingers. Go there and come out three days later as a shell of a man. :D

Went to V Kolkovne restaurant for a meal - pub type establishment - was very good. £30 for 2 mains, 2 puds and 6 beers
Virtually everyone speaks English - the woman behind the till in the supermarket counted out my change in English
I wasn't aware of any particular danger of pickpocketing, and I was there just before Christmas when it was heaving
St Vitus Cathedral up in the castle complex was worth paying for - you can go into the very front of it without paying
St Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, (astronomical clock was a bit of a yawn) and just generally wandering around are good activities
Took the fenicular railway up to the scaled down version of the Eiffel Tower - again was pennies and a nice walk to the Castle
Did some of the Jewish sites in the city, but they are not a laugh a minute
Know what you are going to do to get from the airport to the city rather than trying to wing it, cos you'll end up in a taxi and the local bus is 30p, or something mad like that

Great reply, thanks mate, I'll look into your suggestions :)

If the general consensus is to be believed in GD, the only thing in Prague is a strip club :D

Bridge is lovely in the evening for photos etc, and the castle is well worth going to the top for the views. Watch out for the stairs though as they are loooong!

Enjoy.

Oh, and the beer is brilliant, equivalent of about £1-1.20 for a large glass.

It's fantastic in terms of price and stuff to do (who you going with /plans).

I think generally mugging occurs in stag do groups. I went and was fine, I did find the place a bit seedy at night however (I went with my Mrs)

It's a great city with some fantastic buildings and you may find the videos in this playlist helpfull for getting from the airport and avoiding being ripped off.

Good link, I used exactly this method to get to the Airport.

Whenever I go abroad I almost always use train/bus/metro to get from the airport to the city, the only exception was in Bangkok where it was as cheap to get a minivan back to the airport with a load of other people (I used a bus/train combo to get into the city from the airport). Genuine white knuckle ride that was!:

The first time we went the hotel picked us up and dropped us back at the airport. The last time we used metro and the bus and it was really cheap. Luckily my wife is Czech so that makes things easier!

Going for my 3rd time.. this time stag do..

Amazing city not sure if I've ever seen it in daytime tho.
