Talk to me about Prague

Enjoy Prague, it's a lovely city.

My recommendations:

First try Czech traditional cuisine, which is basically meat and stodge :D Go to a local restaurant not so much aimed at tourists, these places are really cheap. Order Svickova! This is a Czech dish, it's steak, veg, potatoes, all covered in a pepper sauce and topped with double cream and jam! Bizarre - which makes it undoubtedly Czech.

Drink Czech beer, Kozel and Urquell. Our guide said him and his friends avoid bars that sell international main stream beers as they felt they correlated to being not very good bars.

After you've eaten and drank Czech cuisine and managed to digest it, you might want to try something a little more sophisticated:

Try La Finestra

Great Italian restaurant. 15th out of 4599 restaurants in the Prague according to trip advisor. We absolutely loved it.

And then the field is a michelin star restaurant if you really want to treat yourself.

There are loads of bars and restaurants to try out but one in particular is "the pub", just for the novelty of sitting round a big table and pouring your own beers from your own personal beer tap :D I was so drunk in there, I spilled my full stein all over my lap and the whole bar erupted chanting and laughing and singing songs that I couldn't understand as it was in Czech or maybe German (they were probably singing I was a dick head). Pretty rowdy, but very fun.

As for site seeing, it's all mentioned above, the bridge, the palace. We took a sedgway tour which was really cheap for what you got and also meant you could see the city limits and get right across the place effortlessly. However, I believe the locals were petitioning to get them banned so they might not be around anymore. Silly really.

Edit: if you want to go to a shooting range don't go anywhere else but here

It's well out of the city, but their packages include transport there and back. Do not use just any old shooting gallery place that all the stags go to in town. Those places are not guaranteed military grade ammunition and they don't seem as keen on key things like safety! The one I linked is the real deal. When we turned up, a squad of armed police officers were lined up on one of the ranges practicing. Many locals were also using one of the ranges for their weapons. It was clearly the right place when we turned up. So if you've never fired a gun and not considered this activity, I highly recommend it. Lots of fun.

Pivnice U Rudolfina

Although its a proper old mans pub, and they only sell one beer. It's the nicest lager I've ever had. We must've just sat in here and people watched for about 6 hours one day. :)

The food smelt good too.

That's where we went and ate Svickova. The restaurant part is downstairs isn't it.

It's clear the nation is always drunk though. Only a drunk chef could come up with this

Meh, I'd eat it. Clearly drunken experiments though :p

Though Prague was my first experience of steak tartare which I ordered by mistake hungover.

Went to V Kolkovne restaurant for a meal - pub type establishment - was very good. £30 for 2 mains, 2 puds and 6 beers
Virtually everyone speaks English - the woman behind the till in the supermarket counted out my change in English
I wasn't aware of any particular danger of pickpocketing, and I was there just before Christmas when it was heaving
St Vitus Cathedral up in the castle complex was worth paying for - you can go into the very front of it without paying
St Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, (astronomical clock was a bit of a yawn) and just generally wandering around are good activities
Took the fenicular railway up to the scaled down version of the Eiffel Tower - again was pennies and a nice walk to the Castle
Did some of the Jewish sites in the city, but they are not a laugh a minute
Know what you are going to do to get from the airport to the city rather than trying to wing it, cos you'll end up in a taxi and the local bus is 30p, or something mad like that

In terms of pick pocketing the clock is a hotspot as everyone's standing there looking up at it. So just be cautious. But it's not like there's some sort of pickpocketing epidemic.

Prague is fantastic, enjoy! Prague is a good place to start off with considering you're going on holiday after a long time. Everyone speaks English and there's A LOT of Brits about usually on stag do's.

Also make sure you try one of these: http://metro.co.uk/2016/02/25/these-doughnut-style-ice-cream-cones-are-the-stuff-of-dreams-5717454/

Really thankful for the replies! I'm actually really excited now! As for currency, I thought it was Koruna out there but seen a few of you mentioning Euro's. What's the best currency to take? It seems both are accepted in many places?
