Talking to God

There is also a verse that says "there is a time for peace and a time for war" Look for that one, i cant remember where it is. In the bible it says there will be wars and it will be necessary to fight them
Ecclesiastes 3:8

Yes as mentioned these words are in Ecclesiastes and are the words of King Solomon when he was having problems with surrounding warring nations threatening Israel.

But don't forget what Jesus said:
(NIV, John 13:34-35)
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
A new command he says. Can a person who proclaims himself a follower of Christ pick and choose what sayings / commands of Jesus he is to obey?

History shows that during the first couple of centuries Christians refused military service or to bear arms in any way...

hmm

You still need to look deaper then that one verse.
Yes we should love one another but there will be wars and if christians dont fight, then they could be wipped out.
There are a few verses in the bible that mension things like that.
Also something about anyone that attacks gods holy land(isreal) will keep it.
If you look further back in the bible you will see god comanding jacob i think to take on the walls of jerico.
Sure enough war is bad and you should love one another like Jesus said but you still have to stick up for what you believe in

I can't recall offhand where Jesus said anything about making any kind of defence, all I can remember is what Peter wrote:

1Pet 3:15 but in your hearts consecrate Christ as Lord, being always ready to make your defence to any one who asks from you a reason for the hope which you cherish. (WEY)

In light of what Jesus had already said and I have quoted, what sort of defence would Christians make? Jesus said to put away your swords and those who live by the sword will die by the sword (Matthew 26:52-55) So a Christians defence would be to make a verbal defence not a violent one.

Again history of the first few centuries show that Christians would allow themselves to be burnt at the stake or thrown to the lions rather than compromise their faith and give in and pursue violent methods of defence. Paul is a vivid example of this...
