TalkTalk Blocking Remote support/Access

Hi,

My son needs some help with his laptop, he's not local as lives with his Girlfriend if you can call her that. The internet is with TalkTalk but it is done via her mother who has no idea about the username or password as it was done with her ex.

I know if you go into the Talk Talk account you can disable the scam protection but this sadly is not an option.

What is the other option for him to allowed me remote access to fix his laptop? I'm out of ideas. Cheers

Tried Teamveiwer?

That is what they are blocking

Telling him to go somewhere with free wi-fi if it's a laptop is probably easiest - or 4g hotspot with a mobile?

I need him to be home as need to try and access his router to change wifi settings. I can't say reset it as not sure what connection info it needs

Sorry can you clarify what it is
That he needs?
WiFi password /router password
Should be written on the router
Actual login in the router
May be along the lines of
[email protected]
Password being the phone number
That's just an example though
Would have to look up what talktalk
Actually use

Is it broadband
Or fibre
Fibre uses automatic recognition
No user name or password
Broadband user name is
Telephone number followed by
@talktalk.net
Example
[email protected]

The WiFi password will be written on the router
Router login will be
198.162.1.1
User name is admin
Password is admin
Talktalk login details I already mentioned

Yeah if only. I’ve already tried that and the father has changed it. He’s doing time so they won’t know the password ever. The mum is connected but she’s got an iPhone so no way to recover the password.

The plan was to sort his laptop and try and access the router.

If the router needs log in details for the internet connection then resetting it is not an option as don’t know what they are.

I already explained the Internet connection login details
For broadband and fibre
If he resets the router and its
Talktalk provided router should be
Fine and work with the wifi password written on the router /in config page

Assuming it’s a TT supplied router, press the reset button, this will restore it to the default TT u/p that is written on the router. Teamviewer is useless if he has already changed the router and wifi password - you can’t log in without resetting it.

I had the same problem a while ago, what you need to do is disable the family security in the talktalk account page on their website. The block isn't controlled by the router but at the ISP level with their security settings.

I wasn’t looking for a fight or any bitching. I was looking for some help on how to deal with a such a crap ISP that my sons girlfriends parents are using.

We have no account info to have the security setting turned off. As advised the father is inside doing time.

As for the WiFi code and access I was not sure what info is needed for it to work should he reset it. So in order to play it safe I was going to remote in and try it. Ideally the father hadn’t changed the admin name or password.

Reset the router and the Wi-Fi details will change back to whatever is on the sticker on the back. Alternatively just order a new connection in your own name and after two weeks it will migrate as the current account holder isn't really in a position to decline the migration.

What about the broadband connection details? Yeah not so easy that. I’m only wanting to help some what

The problem here isn’t the advice given, it’s that for whatever reason, you are choosing not to follow it. If it’s a TT supplied router the WAN connection and wifi u/p are hard coded, if you reset the router - as has been said multiple times - it will reconnect and default to the default wifi u/p on the back of the router. We can’t make this any simpler or do it for you, and it’s the only way to resolve your issue short of someone booking a migration to another ISP.

As to the other issue, TT took the decision to block teamviewer default connections as they are the primary method scammers use, people were loosing thousands of pounds daily. They also comply with DPA, surely if your random relative has lived with the account holder long enough, she knows enough to be able to legitimately pass DPA, they should then be able to do anything except disconnect the service for her or make other significant changes.
