TalkTalk Wireless router.... Help !

I've been using TT's standard router for some time with no probs. I've just changed it to a Netgear 8624p Wireless router and I now can't connect to my server. When I check the Netgear status it gives the message ' CHAP authentication failed' also there is an icon in the Network connections that says Network gateway disabled, which can't be enabled. Anybody any clues ?

I was wondering if the problem might be that Talk Talk would only connect using their own wireless routers.
 
"CHAP authentication failed" means what it says, authentication failed - have you put in the correct username and password?
 
Which router did you get from TalkTalk?

Was it the EchoLife HG520s? They suck so much... especially the latest batch with the new firmware upgrade. I've got to support them :(

But you should be able to use your own router on TT.
 
Not sure what they are shipping now but you might want to unistall the talk talk software (was it a usb connection before?) and start from scratch setting up manually. Does sound like you have got a password/username or related setting wrong though (possibly add or drop the @talk etc in the username bit sorry cant remeber if this is needed or has to be dropped)

We were setting up someone's broadband, and did exactly that. Completely ignored the CD and did everything manually.

Then once it was set up we realised TT hadn't given us the POP3 server settings :rolleyes:, so had to get them off the CD - which had to go through every stage of setup (would just let me skip to email settings) :rolleyes: and it couldn't connect to the router as I'd changed the login password :p, so had to reset the whole router to defaults and go through the ghastly setup that I'd already done manually, just to get the email settings :rolleyes:

I understand for not commenting and all that. I have a ickle ticket with Talktalk 2nd line at the moment. :p. I'm hoping they can sort it out, sure they can. :)

I don't know if it's just because the morale on the GeekSquad is higher, but everyone on GS (well, almost) is extremely kind and very helpful. Probably because we don't have to deal with angry TalkTalk customers :D

I used to get quite put off when I had an angry customer on the phone, but now I just brush it off, get them to calm down and help them in whatever way I can. I don't really know the tech levels of the current 2nd line team, but I think the transfer away from GeekSquad will be a good thing. There will be a lot of tech-savvy and very friendly guys going over to TalkTalk.
