Talos Principle (part Portal part Myst)

Yep its indeed brilliant, one of the best games I've played in recent years. I've recently played through it all again and loved it as much the second time. The soundtrack is mesmerising.

Just keep an eye out for the those easter eggs and references if that's your thing, there are loads!

"Hmmmmm money! money money! Hehehehe"

WTF was that about!? :D

Did anyone have to resort to guides for any puzzles?

I've come across my first one which just seems impossible. I've have the YouTube guide open in front of me but I really, really don't want to hit play. :(

One I did and glad I did because I would never have got it. About a third of the way through as well :(

I think there were about three I had to get help for. One of them was one of the early replay ones with the crossover beams and I just couldn't suss it out. Once I was shown how, it helped with other puzzles though.

I managed to get past my stuck one with just a sneak peek on YouTube.

But what's even more flummoxing are these stars. Some of them I cannot even see let alone how to get them, others are behind solid walls and others are in the "non-play" area where you don't have any equipment.

Maybe you gain special powers later on which let you move things beyond the purple force fields and change blue beams into red ones and such things.

Picked this up when it was on offer recently and been dabbling with it for a little while.

Think it's really great so far.

It doesn't have the atmosphere that Portal managed to create, I don't think, but the puzzles are probably a bit tougher and more varied.

I had a nice moment the other day, where a puzzle had me stumped one night. I was close to a solution, but couldn't make it work. The next day at work, whilst I wasn't even thinking of the game, the solution came to me in a flash of inspiration. Just popped into my head. Guess my subconscious had been continuing to work on it! I couldn't wait to get home to try it out, and sure enough - worked first time. This kind of event happening is the mark of a good puzzle game, I think.

Looking forward to some more puzzles this evening...

I've been raving about this game for the last few weeks. I'm about 3/4 through the "main" game and am absolutely loving it.

The puzzles, the music, the locales, the computer logs/emails. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I agree it doesn't quite reach Portal levels of greatness, but it's not too far off.

For me, the WOW moment is getting the special puzzles solved which transcend the boundaries of individual puzzles out in to the surrounding areas. Some of them are genius. I had to use a guide though or I would have never got the solutions to some of them.

i haven't had to resort to a guide just yet.. but haven't got all the stars (don't even know where some of them are tbh).

The biggest eureka moment was
realising that you can jump over the walls in some areas and escape with equipment!

just realised that's literally what you said.. and i agree:D

Also for the stars, remember that lasers don't just connect to connectors inside the level you are currently in!

I imagine a few of us took advantage of the Epic Store "12 days of Christmas" event and snapped this up so I hope it's ok to necro the thread.

I'm a few puzzles into area A having solved all but one of the numbered doors in the first area (Just one shape left, I think it's the "L" shape - could be reversed - in the far-left corner of door #6). I haven't used any hints or guides yet.

I'm really enjoying the puzzles and I think I'm missing quite a bit. For example, when I was poking around after solving one puzzle, I noticed something odd.

It was a puzzle in area A, where a ball is moving back & forth along a path inbetween two rows of guns and you have to somehow get a box through it. It's a fun puzzle and it introduces a "new technique", in the order I've done the puzzles at least. Anyway, the puzzle walls have windows and after I solved the puzzle I found that by standing on the box, I could jump though one of the windows (only one, although they all look virtually identical) and "escape" the puzzle. There wasn't much to do outside though from what I could see, apart from running around the outside of the walls. I might have another look incase I missed something.

Incidentally, while wandering around "the outside" I found a glitch where if I stood in a certain spot the nearby wall disappeared. The trouble is, with the nature of the game, I don't know whether it's deliberate or a genuine bug!

A hint is Easter eggs and secrets dude, the game is ram jam packed full of them, seriously like no other game I've ever played and some of them are absolutely brilliant.

Also to collect all the stars you need to think outside of the box and playing area!

Really liking this game so far.. got it as part of Xbox game pass and just getting the tagils to open up level 4 of the tower.. havn't really bothered putting a lot of time into finding and collecting stars.. is that going to cause me problems later on??

I'm not 100% sure I'm right but the stars just open up bonus levels which enable you to get hints if you are stuck. Kind of redundant in the age of YouTube.

No it wont but you are going to want to get them eventually because they open up quite a lot of stuff and getting them all is quite a challenge.
I admit I had to look up 2 of them!

When I played this, I managed to solve a few puzzles in seemingly unintended ways which is interesting. My "Nexus" doesn't quite spell Nexus, for example. :p

For the most part I quite enjoyed the game. There were some puzzles that I just couldn't figure out and had to resort to Youtube guides. Compared to Portal, which I adored and thought the difficulty spike was just about right, Talos seems impossible in places which caused me frustration and not as much enjoyment.

This is a great game, I played it in VR, which made some of the puzzles difficult to solve because of the controls.

but, I have to echo some of previous posters. It's frustrating as hell. Most of the puzzles are really good because you can work out how to solve them no matter how difficult they are. But, for other puzzles there is no logic to them. Some of these I have solved by accident, stumbled across the solution while trying random things. Those puzzles are just annoying.
