I know it's 2018 but theirs a tape stuck in my VCR a Panasonic NV HD635 have had a read of the service manual but it say i need to remove the tape mechanism so wondered if anyone has got any tricks up their sleeves before i get the screwdriver out

Take the VCR apart.
If you try to retrieve the tape you will likely destroy the tape.

Pick the VCR up and put in dustbin...
Would hate to see what a VHS tape would look like on a 40"+ or 4k TV
It's been a long time since I repaired a VCR. Take the lid off and see if you can get the tape out of the mechanism and turn any gears carefully to manually move the tape out. Though something could well be broke so putting a tape back in may result in it getting stuck again.
What about my Gramophone and Tape Decks should they be dumped also

Yup.
I had a family video from the 80s that got caught in a 14” TV/VCR combo last year. It took about two hours to strip the unit down but the video was undamaged.
If you get Deadpool 2 on UHD watch the main menu it emulates an old video tape picture.
