Hey all,

Well im learning to drive now, hoping to do about 4-6 hours a week, squeese em all in!! so as soon as i get passed i need a car. My dad has a tipo which is for sale but also being used by a mate of his for the mean while.

So if the Tipo doesnt sell then i 'can' have it although its a bit of an old's mobile. But its a car!! But if it does sell he said he'll help contribute towards a car etc etc.

I get about 500 pound a month from work, but my only real out goings would be 25 for internet and 10-15 a week for food so that leaves me about 400 pound + what ever my dad gives me which i dont know! i could always save for another month and have at least a thousand but idealy the cheaper the better!!

So what are your suggestions guys, short list so far;
Clio 1.4rt
106
Fiat bravo - bit more expensive but i would stretch for one of these lol
cinquecento - mate had one and it struggled so much with 5 of us going up a hill but they seem good fun.

Jack!!!

I should think that the Clio is the best handling of the selection there, but I cant say thats 100% true.

I'd go with the 106 on the handling side of things, but out of that list I'd go for the Clio as a first car - plently of features, and the 1.4 8v F7 engine is solid.

I gave mine death for months on end, never skipped a beat.

Pug 106, is alright, but i found one very very cramped. Possibly look at the 306, its pretty similar a car, but more more spacious. Good fun cars to drive though, pleanty feedback through the wheel and encourages you to rag it.

IMO aviod the Fiat Bravo, very nice looking cars, I was looking at them when i was looking at my first car. Everyone i spoke to said they were quite unreliable and expensive for wht they are.

chiquento - Just dont buy a pink one :p

Its cheap and Italian, so its going to be unreliable by definition, as is anything cheap and French.

nice sweeping generalisation there.
Whats the wooosh for? That usually means something going over someone's head :/ it doesn't make any sense in this context.

I've got a Fiat Bravo a 1.4 my first year insurance in my mums name was 1200 quid

they are expensive to insure and run. 1 years no claims now and its 900ish / 75 a month.

But are awsome cars, handle soo nice, and are really nippy, have nice extras as standard - sports suspention.

I mean no offence whatsoever by this question, but do you have any frame of reference?

But would you say it was awesome?

If I had not driven anything else and enjoyed driving it then who knows? Awesome is obviously an overstatement but if it fits the bill then what can you say?

Uber cheap fench or italian cars just seem to be a really bad idea tbh.

I had a clio as a first car, it wasnt even really old or cheap at the time - it cost me lots to fix, parts were expensive and had so many other problems that I couldnt fix and were really annoying.

If i was at that stage again I would definetly be looking at something Jap/German/Ford ect
