Uber cheap fench or italian cars just seem to be a really bad idea tbh.

I had a clio as a first car, it wasnt even really old or cheap at the time - it cost me lots to fix, parts were expensive and had so many other problems that I couldnt fix and were really annoying.

If i was at that stage again I would definetly be looking at something Jap/German/Ford ect

Bought a 1.6 XS 306. Refurb calipers off ebay for £0.99, Disks for £14.99 and some new pads for £19.99 from halfrauds. Got a used middle section and cat for £10 from a scrapper and fitted it all. Serviced the engine myself and did my tappets. Now running really smooth for a 100k mile car with no problems what so ever. Electric windows, Electric Sun Roof, Electric Mirrors, Fully adjustable bucket seats and adjustable steering column. nice handling and a solid revvy engine. I replaced a mates wheel bearing for £14.99 and my new front brakes set me back £35 so i would hardly call parts expensive.

It's just about how well you look after your car and how well you treat it.

Would recommend a 306 D-turbo or Xsara 1.9 TD. Citroens are cheaper but you pay a premium for a Peugeot which is basically for the looks.
