You can just open the start menu with WINKEY or clicking the start button and begin typing whatever you would normally type into the search bar anyway. I see zero point in displaying the taskbar search button/bar for this very reason, it does not speed anything up, you still have to click it to then begin typing, so just do it via the start button and disable the search bar by right click on the taskbar.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not the biggest fan of Windows, but I don't like the direction Microsoft is going with Windows 11 and Office 365 - such as enforced UI updates that seemingly either reduce functionality and/or annoy the user.

I think it's a matter of just getting used to the changes, nobody likes changes. A bit of both for the better and some not so much. If you move to say Linux it's a learning curve of changes.

Looks like Microsoft has actually made it a choice now with the latest update.
