Taste?

Is there another taste apart from Sweet, sour salty and bitter or have i dreamed that there is.

If so what is the other one called? :confused:

apparently heat doesnt come into it. i think thats because most of our body can detect heat.

Umami - salts of certain acids (for example monosodium glutamate or MSG)

The spicyness of food is to do with pain receptors actually.

As said, Umami - impossible to describe but detects glutamates.... handily stimualtes other tastes, hence MSG being in a lot of foods.

Therefore, Umami is the taste taste.... as in, you taste "taste".
