hey guys. ive got my first tattoo booked in for next week, its a kinda half sleeve, starting at my wrist and going to just below the elbow, and all around the arm.

as its my first one, im wondering what can i expect, on that part of the arm is it likely to hurt much, and how long its likely to take and stuff.

cheers for any input

My daughter says Pain, Pain and more Pain and it will be a bugger to heal. She has had had 3 done now so it can't be that bad! I had one done on my foot which as agony, but does stop hurting straight away. Also my daughter says to eat jelly before hand to lessen the bleeding. Her tattooist told her that one.

It's silly to ask on this forum because the majority of people here read The Times and don't like anything like this ;)

But expect pain and a whole lot of swelling afterwards :)

How long it will take will depend on your tattooist and how much detail it has.

The pain will pass quite quickly but all in all, most experiences differ from tattoo to tattoo.

Can't you start small and add to it later on?

That's what i've done with my wrist.

As for pain, I thought getting my blood taken was more painful, the endorphins made me go a bit dizzy though...It's all good :-)!

I've not had a tattoo myself but remember the aftercare is important, different people will recommend different things to keep the skin moist so it might be worth asking your tattooist what they recommend.

How long it's likely to take depends on the detail and your pain threshold.

Word of advice...DO NOT go out drinking the day before, it thins the blood out and really makes the pain worse....trust me :p

What to expect, the best way I can describe it is take a finger and scratch your arm quickly and shortly, thats a bit what it's like...continuously.

If the tattooist goes over a bone expect all of it to vibrate, mine goes across my back so had to put up with vibrating shoulder blades and spinal cord...yay...

If you apply the bepanthen reguarly (4 times a day) the tatt will heal quickly and nicely, bear in mind you'll probably have to go back to have it patched, again this depends on the design.

I've got a pic of mine somewhere, I'll find it.

Here we go:

And I've recently decided on my next.

It'll rape over the bones and along the edge of the chest, i'm pretty good with pain (I do all my own peircings,) and even I was wincing like a baby. Generally any areas where the skin is taught or over bone will hurt more. These areas aside a tattoos isn't really that painful an experience. IMHO peircings hurt a lot more even though the timeframe of the pain is shorter.

Yarrrrrrr, I've been sent out to get Bepanthen before, it works. They might have to be patched? As in redone? :|

Not redone, but if you scratch at it, or it gets knocked it could damage it so it needs to be patched up, its rare but it can happen.

I've never really understood back tattoos ;\.
I've wanted one there for years :)

Where's the next one going?

Not sure, either neck, chest, or on my right arm somewhere.

you're getting a half sleeve done in one session for your first tattoo?

haha have fun.

haha have fun.

Depending on the design....it could be some very simple lines then that's easily doable.

But any good tattooist won't do a full blown half sleeve with shading etc in one session, doesnt matter if your a tattoo fanatic or not.
